...I just test my card with another tool (Techpowerup gpuTool) and "error" started to appear frequently... I dropped the clock to 6950 value, and no "error" yet. I hope you'll be more lucky than me.

which one are you using this? Apparently it's flaky... Can't you run Crysis or Mero loop for hours on end?

Try other card burn tests...

Edit - if you dropped the clocks and the error went away, might be the card.

Are the temps ok the entire time?

Well what's important is the pipes unlocked and stayed that way...

Now it's just a matter of giving her a bit more juice!

You're absolutely right!

Additional Comment:

Hey Tomek, you might want to consider this option if you bought the same card.

After reading about the not confirmed "6970 bios flash vram problem" in the first post, and because my unlocked 6950 was not stable with the default 6970 clock speed, I decided to reflash the card with a mod of the original bios using RBE.

Everything went fine, pipelines are still unlock...

Hope everything will work for you.

Thanks, just picked them up today! So you're no longer getting an error w/ Techpowerup gpuTool? What's your voltage at now?

Cheers, T

Yup, no more error with techpowerup gpuTool. Voltage is back to the original one (1.1v).

Have you try to unlock your card yet?

I follow this guide: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ng/vidcard/159

You can either use a 6970 bios the one I used: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/8...48.101124.html

or use the default bios of your card and mod it with RBE to unlock the pipelines without changing anything else.

Since some people has reported that the vram timming of a 6970 bios "might be" responsible for permenant damages on the videocard, I would rather recommend to use this way for flashing the card.

RBE: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...tor_v1.28.html

Step 6 didn't work for me, so you're probably going to do the "extra work".

Just follow the steps.

Whatever option you choose, both should works... Well both worked for me .

Good luck

OKie dokie, thank you for the hard work! I'll report back ASAP!

Additional Comment:

No luck on this end. Ended up bricking the card, but was able to fix it by putting the original BIOS back on.

The closest I got was using RBE to change the clocks and pipes of the original BIOS,

but windows crashes on boot-up after re-installing the drivers... hmmm

Can you help a moron out, and advise which "step 6" you are referring to?

Or perhaps your step-by step. Not sure what we are doing wrong here.

Tried just unlocking the Pipe w/ RBE, tried changing pipes, clocks and volts w/ RBE, tried 6970 BIOS, tried Wizards script.

Can you post your BIOS please?

Thanks, Tomek

I'm sorry to hear this

About step 6, I meant that I had to used W1zzard command to flash my bios :
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpo...6&postcount=19

I've attatched my unlock bios, I hope it can help, you might want to change the fan setting... I just noticed how bad they are.
Good luck

When I try W1zzard command to flash it bricks my card. Just realized the cards has dual BIOS! lol

Before I was pulling it, adding a working card into slot one, and flashing the original BIOS back with the 6950 in slot two. haha

This will definitely make brick recovery easier! haha

So just to be clear you are reffering to step 6 in wicked's 1st post in this thread.

You are inserting W1zzard's steps there...

Anyone have any ideas? Here is my card:

Well, that mean, I'm a lucky guy...

For step 6 I was refering to techpowerup guide. But if W1zzard's command broke your card, I have no idea what else can you try.

About your card, I noticed something in your pictures... Your card has only two heatpipes, and mine has another one in the middle of the card (shown in the picture)... I don't know if this has something to do with the fact that I was able to unlock mine...

Anyone have any ideas?

Smile Thank You Wicked

Last week I ordered two MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II's on accident, I meant to order two Twin Frozr III's. At first, I was a bit angry and thought I messed up because the III's come with Dual-Bios, have a MSI written unlocked BIOS, etc. Come to find out, with this thread and many others, the Twin Frozr III's do NOT unlock after the first batch! That is sad, for Twin Frozr III owners anyway!

Today I registered to this forum, for one sole purpose, to thank bystander and wicked for their outstanding contribution to by new unlocked MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II's!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Both unlocked EASY with your zip file wicked!

I have one suggestion wicked, that you edit your original post to include one solid piece of advice: Normally, in Windows 7, if you get a batch file or a folder with a series of small system type files from another computer, and it was created on another computer, you have no access to actually run them. Run as Administrator doesn't even work most of the time. (as in this case)

I can see how you missed it wicked, since you created it on YOUR computer, so it would easily run without an issue. But on other people's computer with Windows 7, unless they have explicit Admin access, they can not run your batch file.

Simple solution to anyone having issues running his batch file due to UAC: google how to unlock administrative account on windows 7, follow instructions, reboot and log into admin account, and voila! You can do anything you want with batch files in the admin account!

stock volts, but it might be a little ambitious. Not so sure she'll hold. Haven't really tested too thoroughly yet.

You would likely need more voltage @ those speed as you have the pipes unlocked (bastage! lol)

EDIT - to do 10 loops at stock volts I had to back down to 918/1350, but we are getting OT.

Oops... you're right, I might start a thread about "What are your 6950 settings".
