Cool, I just got my SuperMicro 4p board up a bit ago. I think I'll do some testing with 1 6128 before I add the second one.

If you have a Supermicro board, you need to look into the [h] guys new bios... theyre getting 30% overclocks right easy now.

Thanks, I'll check it out once I have all of my systems up. I am concerned that I won't be able to keep the system cool enough during the Summer. We don't have air conditioning. While I'm at it, I'll give a little update, I have 2 16 procs working now on the Supermicro board. Assuming it stays up, my PPD should go up a bit.

I guess...not even a bit.
I suppose the 6272s were too much for the board. Sometime during the night it failed and now not even the board fans will spin up. At least, the Asus board made it two days with the 6272s. In case you are wondering, the only components in common were the ram, heatsinks, and processors. BTW, I had a kill-a-watt meter plugged in and it was only drawying 360 watts at 100% load folding. The power supply is a 850 watt single rail Corsair.

ha makes my lack of another 8pin seem nominal to your problems
seriously though i hope you get it running so we can have a good jump in points for the team. your multi processor rig and my multi processor rig should net the team about another 10% ppd maybe moreAdditional Comment: new power supply and its still not working. im talking to tyan customer service right now Additional Comment: they are trying to tell me the exact sticks of memory that were used by jmossman in this exact board is my issue... for some reason i dont believe them Additional Comment: jurk timed out on me twice. im gonna try running only 1 processor at a time see if maybe one of the processors is bad Additional Comment: tried each processor individually and still nothing. im starting to get ****ed off now. I think I remember jmossman having issues with the video and deciding to run it with a video card. I can't say for sure. Are the fans spinning up? Unfortunately, a bad onboard chip and bad ram both show black screens. Do you have a video card to plug in for a test?

yes ive tried the gt 430 i have and that doesnt do anything either. im starting to think its my power supply. all the stuff ive found says it requires a ps with dual 8 pin connectors on seperate rails. im not sure if my new one is a dual or single rail ps but judging by how cheap they are im guessing single.
i believe he told me he used on board |

you could try pulling the ram altogether. If you have a pc speaker or an onboard speaker on that board, you should get some bios beeps to let you know what isn't working. This might at least let you know that it isn't the ram. I would probably lean toward a PS. If you have a power supply tester, you could hook up a second power supply to with the its own 8pin power thus giving you plenty of power over the 8pins. You would be frankin-moding .. but when troubleshooting .. you use what ya got. I think you can also short 2 of the pins on the 24pin connector to signal a power on, but at tester is a far safer way. It removes the guess work and googling ... and everyone should get a good cheap $12 power supply tester.

I have a connector that goes over the 20 pin and shorts it to test my water systems. I might try that tomorrow

Is there a good measuring stick of FLOPS vs ppd or some list of average ppd per device? I'm curious in doing a comparison of dual socket vs GPU.

The power supply I originally ran was a single rail 750 corsair that I made another 8 pin adaptor for. Later I ran a cheap 850w raidmax single rail and had no issues with either. Now that I think about it though, it did exactly the same thing you described before. It spun up for a couple seconds then killed power. Once I switched to video card and changed jumper to pci-e card it fired right up. That ram I used in that board and in the 4p until recently. I got a deal from my brother on some cas-7 ram and switched to it. Made almost no difference over the cas-9 though really.
I had a speaker on the board that I musta forgot to throw in, it's one of those tiny lil 1/2" things that beeps real loud and it beeped a code that translated to a video problem forgot the beep code but looked it up in the manual. Also depending on where you get the info, you may see some places listing certain memory makes and models not working and others working it's very confusing. Many boards I hear are touchy with non ECC ram, but for some reason these Tyans seems to work pretty well with a lot of non ECC. That may be the confusion with them saying it won't work. I would be sure bios is set correctly for it, not sure what default was for it, but this is non ECC. I musta got lucky with these builds cause it seems like everyone else is having a helluva time.

There have been several attempts at this... the ones on overclock.net are probably the best I've seen: http://www.overclock.net/t/475163/fo...u-ppd-database http://www.overclock.net/t/591976/fo...u-ppd-database google spreadsheets: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?...Bg&w=100&h=750 https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?...Bg&w=100&h=750 http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=83088&mpage=1 http://fahinfo.org/index.php?news=true |

ok so i got it up and running. had to install win 7 home premium 64 bit for now.
ive got v6 running with smp and bigadv tag's. my first core is a project 6098 which is a 500k step project like the ones ive been getting on my desktop. only problem is its tpf is 20 minutes rendering me only 6k ppd. cpuz coretemp and all that is only showing me 1 cpu but in device manager under control panel it shows 16 individual cores under processors so i dont know whats going on here. per core temp and all cpu meter gadget on windows my cpu is running 100%. i dont know how hot these server chips are supposed to get but im only running 32c at 100% load which seems low to me but then again it is only running at 2ghz. i just have a feeling im missing something |
