The newer coretemp and cpuz should show both processors. You should be able to install Ubuntu after Windows to make it a dual boot. That seems really slow and low ppd.

BTW, congrats for getting it up!

I find 2/4p setups blow on smp a3!

My dual l5639s get only 9k on a3 where my 950@4.0Ghz is getting 21k

I think a3 doesnt scale well over 2 or more cpus.

Not to hijack the thread, but I thought that bigadv didn't work on windows, but earlier my client kicked up to 23k point units up from about 1300 point units. And how much better does linux perform than windows?

you can use gparted to remove the partitions that windows is on and expand the linux ones to fill the drive. If it's command line only, then it's fdisk you want.

well linux has a program called the kraken which once you have ran a fold will wrap the core and run something like 20-30% faster folds. plus linux uses alot less resources so you fold has more stuff to fold with.

from what i have heard windows will do some bigadv's but they are rare and finicky

My 950@4.0Ghz has gained 3k ppd by running a virtual box install of ubuntu. I also run a vbox install on my 2p hex xeons for bigadv pts of 68k ppd.

^thats not correct. Well fully, The current a5/a3 core for Linux is the newest cores wrote, as such they were wrote pretty efficiently and so perform better, bout 20% better natively.

Thekraken as writen by some amazing people at [h]ardfolding and is just an affinity wrapper ensuring that the core is the highest priority item being worked on. Its only useful on 2/4p setups

So are you saying that using Linux in a VM is faster than Windows again? I know that was true at one point, but then Windows caught up.

Its not resources as much as it's the core.. Some people can't run native *nix setups.

My daily work computer is also my main folding rig, and theres no *nix alternative
