TEC Idea
This would remove the chance of water damage and having to water proof the MOBO, etc. Use two water blocks one to remove the heat and one as the cooler block. This would be like a heat exchanger. |

I've seen it tried where a heatsink is used to 'radiate' the cold side of the TEC into the water... And I've seen a few others that are similar to your drawing. None of the projects returned decent results.

It does not work unless you use like 3 170+ tecs. You would need a huge *** rad and 2 separate loops for cooling. TECs are so inefficient it wouldn't be worth the bother.

Home depot sells a water-chiller that uses a TEC. It's pretty cool as it comes with a nice 120mm fan, heat-sink, and a PSU capable of driving the TEC and a resevoir all for $50. Something to consider for the DIY type person looking for a cheap solution.

I will say the projects I saw were pretty old and only utilized 80-120w TEC's... But bigger TEC's aren't any more efficient anyway.
I would think a used mini-fridge would cost less than the monthly electric bills! |

Hey Stalka, I saw it here in Canada at a home depot for like 85bucks Canadian so I do not have the exact link. I figure it is around 50USD. I know for a fact that Walmart has this unit as well. It's very easy to tell if it is the TEC one because it is like a tabletop style and it weighs almost nothing. A friend and I opened it up at home depot and we both got all excited when we saw the TEC in there.
If it is at home depot in Canada, it will be 100% available in the US home depot because our HD is just a mirror of the products you guys have, they are all the same suppliers. |

yeah....almost..... but also put a waterblock on the otherside.......this way the heat would be taken away by the water coming from the CPU........that water would go into the RES......then it would pass thru the cool side WB of the TEC and off to the CPU |

actually that is not like you described. that one has 2 hot sides and the cold side is below if I am not mistaken there is no water cooling in that one

Shroomer is right. That uses 2 TECs with the cold sides sandwiched onto a copper upside down T. Using TEC's to chill water is just not a good idea. You'll need a huge amount of power just to keep up with the heat load, and you'll need a really huge amount of rad area to keep the water cool.

Guys,
I didn't get a chance to go over to home depot today but I did find the same product online. It is at Canadian Tire Here is the link so that you can get an idea of the product name. ALso notice in the decription it mentions "Electronic Refrigeration" this means Pelt cooled. http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortmen...rtment=primary |
