When will you need more than 8 Gigs of RAM

I've got 8 gigs of OCZ Reaper which i'm running clocked down into the 6's on DDR3 1333(see my sig) so I'm incredibly happy with it for my phenom II rig my question is how long till I'll have to give these up for a higher amount of ram.

10 years from now when the smallest stick of ram you can buy is 6gb, you will laugh at the good old days when you were rocking 8gbs.

Probably in 5 years people will be getting 16gb. 5 years ago people were saying 4 wasn't needed and 2 was enough.

95% of the time my 6gb is perfect. Other 5% its still fine just have like 100 photos open or something. Windows does a good job at closing unnecessary resources as well

Just looked at Newegg **** ram has dropped in price! Although my ram is somehow better then all of it? Only 1 stick out of 703 different DDR3 ram is running CAS 6 and its only dual channel 2gb..

I currently have 16GB ram in my PC.

I frequently run 6-8 VMs on my PC and they each have to have a fair emount of ram available so 16GB comes in very handy.

You'll probably want to upgrade to DDR4 in 3+ years for the potential performance increases the new topology has to offer, as well as higher clock speeds and lower power consumption.

Glad to know I got some time to wait cause these sticks were expensive when i got them a few years ago, but they've got freaking heat spreaders on em so I can't complain maybe one of these days I'll get around to pushing them farther but they run cool to the touch as I have them right now, whats the safe temp for ram also OCZ says these things are warrantied up to 1.95v i've only got them at 1.7 atm.

Don't kill them. OCZ has been out of the ram business for over a year now. There are no more Reapers. Just tried to RMA mine and was told this.
Had to settle for a pro-rated cash payment of $65 for a 2x1 gig set of 9200 Reapers that I had for only a couple years. I think that blows.
