Thumbs up Fold-a-thon Number 3 next Monday-Wednesday!

This is a heads up for Fold-a-thon Number 3. Time for you to fire up something extra if you aren't fullly committed, or time to try it if you haven't yet.

Starts at Midnight Sunday night April 8 and ends Wednesday April 11 at Midnight.

If you only want to complete one unit, be sure to use the -oneunit argument.

If my laptop gets here in time, I'll give that a shot. See how the mobile sandy bridge and a GTX 560m fold.

My 2p and 4p are both running a 6903 now. The 4p finishes tonight. The 2p isn't running quite the frame times I expected, so I flipped one more bios setting. In any case, the 2p should hit in the window and the 4p will complete at least one project in the window.

I was getting 43 minutes, but I've just restarted. It has 2 6172s in it right now. In comparison, my 4p with 6272s is 16 minutes. They boath are running 10.04 LTS although the 6272 is running latency 7 memory.

I bought 4 6172s for my SuperMicro board. There were 4 on ebay that were too cheap for me to pass.

I'll post the update frame times in a few hours.

Additional Comment:

I'm at 38 minutes now for the 2p and 15:40 for the 4p.

I'm at 35 minutes now (frame to frame varies a bit) on the 2p which is more like what I'd expect factoring in the slower memory and slower processors. What ram latency are you using on your 6128s?

I thought it should be about 2x the 4p board. But, I guess the 6272s are a little faster than the 6172s. I think it is more than just the faster ram.

It doesn't explain why your 2p 2.0 chips are not 1.5x of my 6172s. Since 6172s are 2.1s, I would expected yours to be 1.5x my times at least. I guess there could be a scale issue when you go higher than 8 cores.

Maybe we don't have a big enough sample yet.

Additional Comment:

The 2p has gone to approximately 43 minutes tpf. It seems like it is throttling. I'm going to try opening the case up.

Additional Comment:

Back to approximately 35. I definitely need to get some more air flow in that case.

if it wont affect anything else just take the side panel off and put a box fan or something near it. or just get some scythe 1900 rpm fans. i have one pushing air over my board and it pushes some amazing air.

Additional Comment:

btw i have gpu's and cpu running right now and im hopefully gonna finish the ubuntu install tonight and attempt to get the 28's running

Yeah, that's what I have going on right now. The side panel off with fan blowing on the board. I'm just a little surprised how hot the 6172s run at 100%.

My other boxes have major overclocks on them and have stayed rock solid, but then I did a lot of work to get them at rock solid. They are off now due to not having enough amps. I'm afraid I'm pushing it to turn on the other two boxes. I need a solution before I get the other 4p up. I'll start a thread for that.

BTW, the 4p is running was running a 6901 when I left this AM at 7 minutes tpf.

Assuming internet connectivity. I'd ctrl-c out of it, delete the queue, and restart fah6, but I'm impatient. You did say your connectivity was really slow though.

EDIT: I just saw this post http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21233 via hardforum. Apparently, they were having server issues.
