Mexican Standoff w/ IRS

Like a crazy ex-GF kicking the door in, putting a shotgun to your throat and saying she wants her s**t back, the IRS seems to think I owe them something. This alleged money that I owe dates back several years and makes me wonder wtf they are talking about. I've filed taxes every year since I was old enough to work. They allege an informant gave them evidence. The only thing I can think of was a company I worked for several years ago that was convicted of fraud and went out of business. Had nothing to do with me and everything they paid me was legit. Some employees were helping them hide money and whatnot, but I only found out about it when the IRS started making baseless threats towards me and I told them to f**k off. Maybe this somehow made them angry, and just like an ex-GF vowed revenge, I dunno. On one hand it's funny, on another it's serious, whatever, it is what it is.

Regardless, it's prudent to protect my interests so before they issue any court orders, I will be sheltering assets with an un-named person. You may have noticed my points stopped yesterday and returned this afternoon. That's because I turned ownership over to this un-named person. My lawyer said this was unethical, but legal, lol I LOVE THIS GUY! Then to protect himself from ethics violations, he had me confer with another lawyer to do the transfer of a lot of my stuff. He instructed me not to tell this lawyer anything about why I was doing it. That way, neither lawyer is breaking ethics. Then finally, to prepare my actual case, a third independent lawyer will handle all that. He will not be told anything about what happened before. He assured me this has a good chance to tie the court's hands when they find out, and they will, he also assured me of that. I would like to assure him how stupid he is to open himself to an ethics investigation, but if he wants to take that chance, I'll let him.

I realise there are numerous ways the court can find to re-collect these assets, I've seen it happen to others, but if they wanna really fight me in court over trying to cure diseases, that's a fight I welcome. Besides my lawyer went to Harvard. *extends middle finger to IRS*

I intend to keep the machines running, at the least I intend to keep the 4p going indefinately. The only case I can think of where that will change is if my house becomes a concern. The IRS can take anything, I'm well aware of that, but only if you don't pay them. If I lose this battle which I probably will, I'll sell whatever I need to and save my house. I always find a way and I intend to find a way this time to save both.

If your truly did nothing wrong and the IRS is hassling you because they are a bunch of dicks, write your congressmen as well.

Its amazing what a congressional inquiry can do.

Someone from my church got a letter from the IRS saying they owed them some ridiculous amount of money (hundreds of thousands iirc). However, he had all his paperwork and after a few years of auditing and all was said and done, the IRS ended up owing him money.

If you have all your paperwork, you should be all set.

I've done the IRS ballet myself Last time in 2010. Thankfully each time the audit showed my finances and payments were spot on. I'm not sure what prompted the audits, could have been a tip or just a random draw from a hat, but each time I was prepared with paperwork and records to back-up what I filed and the process was fairly swift taking about 4 months. I file my taxes myself It always nets me 3-4X more time a break than having someone else would get for me without the Fees. I'm not scared of the IRS I pay what I think is due and they usually have less paperwork than I have when I meet them. I just refute every claim they have with a piece of paper they do not posses.
The IRS has been hiring agents and training them at a rate never before seen, I know another 4000 are slated to be hired in the next few months to review the filings. I wish my uncle had told me about his audit , I feel I could have offered him some help now that I do have access to his finances. The IRS broke my grandfather in half with taxes fees and penalty's and he never recovered from it, my uncle is barely pulling through it and is nearly on his feet again and standing proud after the beat down he received, hope things don't turn sour for you Jmossman.

Well a lot of it is BS, of that I'm positive from the accusations they're making. Some other parts could have some truth to them. Basically some of it's bluster and some isn't but they are 2 different things entirely. If they had any evidence then I would be criminally indicted, and since that's complete BS, there is no evidence. The other part isn't criminal, just backtaxes. Will need to talk to my tax lawyer to figure out if any of the backtaxes is gonna go anywhere. These both are stemming from the company I worked for that was indicted and went out of business. Since I'm a subcontractor, a lot of per diem is added to my wages for expenses. I kept records of all expenses for a long time and started slacking lol. So I might be screwed on some of that and plus they are looking into my current employer now so I'm definately screwed on that. For whatever reason, I've never been audited so got lazy with records. The employer from years back used to pay like 70% of my wages in per diem so you can see how that might be suspect lol.

I do believe that hiding assets from the IRS constitutes Criminal Fraud you might want to look into the penalties for that before you go doing something that could ruin your life.

Took them a couple days but finally gave an order to freeze my assets. Doesn't really matter to me anyway cause looks like they are interested in making a deal. Rather than have them look too deeply into the last several years of employment, I believe it's a better option to get this dropped. The company was cooking the books and part of it involved how they were paying me, doesn't matter if I was involved or not. This tax lawyer seems to be very good. I understand almost nothing of what he says, other than the fact I better settle lol. He's gonna try for a payment plan.

Far as I was concerned I didn't mind gambling on hiding the assets. Figured it wasn't a good idea, but if they had won and really given it to me I could at least win some small battle, even if it was just pride. The order only mentioned what I do after receiving it, nothing before it. Said all assets must be declared to the IRS under penalty of federal prison etc etc. The lawyer doesn't even know anything about it yet, so kinda hard to ask him. Kinda standing on the razor's edge I guess.

Reading through forums, never ceases to amaze me, regarding the things that people talk about.

You've already told the world far too much about your personal life, which is only jeopardizing your position further. I suggest you ask a Mod to remove this thread.

This.

Wouldn't be a problem to complain about the IRS in the rant forum, but don't tell us that you're hiding your folding rig.

The value of these assets is far less than the penalties...which could be jail time.

I give you the benefit of the doubt that you have done nothing wrong prior, but you don't want to give them more reasons to suspect you.

So somebody filed an additional set of taxes in your wife's name to get a return? Wouldn't the check be in her name? Sounds like full on identity theft.
