The first thing you should have created was restore disks, I hope you did that.
You need to go onto the HP website and download the missing drivers for your particular note book, as your brother got a driver disk, you might be able to use the cam driver, that's if it the same model and the same driver, I'd try the HP website first. You should have took a note of all non-microsoft drivers on the laptop prior to re-formatting, that way they are easier to find, your lucky you are only missing one driver. |

DV6 model came with vista i believe, then it should have installed its own generic driver to start using the webcam imediately with skype, yahoo video, etc.

I would have thought that, my asus didn't need the webcam driver when I updated to win7, but I have noticed web cam drivers available on the HP website, must depend on the webcam being used in the model.

What needs to happen is to search for the exact model number of the laptop in question to get the original drivers for that unit, the info should be on the HP sticker on the back side... google works best and more quickly.
Example - hp pavilion dv6-xxxxx drivers |

Model number comes up as a win7 machine... instead of the driver for the webcam, have you tried installing the webcam software to use it directly, perhaps that will include the updated driver together as well.
cyberlink youcam - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...18494&sw_lang= Optional drivers Link - http://www.driverstag.com/hp-pavilio...for-windows-7/ Its too bad you didnt save the SWsetup(drivers) folder thats usually on the HDD, i've seen it many times before working on plenty of HP laptops in the past. Its also possible that HP never put in a driver originally because win7 put one in by default, they just installed the cyberlink youcam software only for the user to be able to use the installed webcam. |

If the hardware is different on the DV7, then the SWsetup drivers folder will be useless for your DV6. Now, if its using the same cyberlink youcam webcam, then the driver should work for yours as well.

Since the DV7 has the same webcam, is there a webcam driver(not software app) in the SWsetup folder you can possibly use in the DV6 laptop?
