That review doesnt state how they are reading voltages either. It also doesnt say anything about voltage variation, ram clocking, etc...

Odd, I tried adding an open box one and it didn't give me the combo discount while the 2500k was in my cart. I was originally looking at that same gigabyte board until I saw the ASRock Z77.

One thing I definitely decided is that I want the ability to SLi this time should I decide to pick up another GTX460 for cheap. As much as I hate multi-gpu set ups, if I can snag another 256-bit for $100 used, I'm going to do so.

It seems Z77 actually brings more performance then IB does
The Virtue MVP brings some decent gains to gaming performance. IB's better IGP helps more so with that, so the only reason to get IB really would be the IGP if you have a Z77 and arent using SLI/Xfire.



On another note, I think Im happier with my FX-8120 then I was with any of the 2500Ks Ive had. More fun OCing, more things to tweak and toy with, and can do more things at once while keeping temps down. And single threaded performance is plenty good enough over 4.5Ghz.

My bro has a 8120 clocked up to around 4.9 ghz on his set up (he hates intel with a passion ever since he got suckered into buying a Pentium D ) . He's also running two triple 120 radiators and sli'ed GTX 560 ti's. He actually got the 8120 free after his new asus mobo turned out to be a bad apple and fried his 1090T.

About the same setup I have. I have a 320 and 220 plus two 480s. Going to spend the rest of the day seeing how much more I can get from the CPU.

Cecil, just a lil update for ya: So far people at XS who have the ASRock z77 Extreme boards are reporting good results. It definitely isn't hindering overclocks.

I saw the thread over there. All I said about the Z77s was to wait until you see how they did, just from past experiance. They have been getting better the last couple generations but up until now still havent got to the top of the food chain yet. Too early to tell with Z77. It would certainly be nice to have another player in the high end game to help bring down prices.

Using 2500K right now, the buff is not big enought to dump what I've got. Seriously doubt I am going to upgrade. Of course if I were to use something else, it would be a different story.

The 3770k has an unlocked multiplier so you can overclock a lot further.

We're about a month away from Haswell, so IB wouldn't be on my list of upgrades. However, if your current rig meets all your needs, then no need to think about it for now.
