Folding on a laptop, PPD?

Just wondering what kind of PPD I should expect from my new laptop. It has an i7-2670QM @ 2.2GHz and a GTX 560M. Would it be worth it to fold on the GPU too?

Yes, folding both should be 15-20K PPD. I get 10K PPD on my CPU and about 7K on my GPU.

That being said, I have an Asus G73SW with great cooling and I still have to stand the thing on end to keep things cool enough. Also, I'm pretty much scared to fold with it now due to the fact it seized up during the last foldathon, so I skipped folding with it this foldathon. I had to restore to an old backup because windows was corrupt, though I think that was actually a coincidence. Also, mine is a refurb with a 90 day warranty so I'd rather not push it too hard.

I ran it for a bit today and it didn't get nearly as hot as I thought it would. CPU topped out at 80c, but mostly stayed around 70-75c. GPU was only at 60c or so. Seems like the cooling works really well.

Alienware M17x R3.

Additional Comment:

So I left it fold all night. I got a 10127 SMP core, about 30 minutes per frame, and a 7643 GPU core at about 10-15 minutes per frame. Looks like about 18k PPD average with both folding. It'll take about 2 days to do the SMP core though and a little over a day for the GPU core.

Though I won't have it folding 24/7, but I'll leave it fold most of the time.

80C, isn't its max, but its not great.

I'd recommend propping up the back end to allow for good airflow.

I am. And when I left it folding last night, the CPU topped out at 76c, but looked like it was staying around 70-72c, which is what my desktop hits when it gets warm in my room, so that's not too bad.

I was hitting 85-90C with my HP laptop when I was folding last summer. i7-2630QM @ 2.0ghz. That is with it sitting on an aluminum cooling pad (2 fans, usb powered). I'll be folding with V7 for 4 weeks this summer (at night only) while I'm out on the road for work (no interwebs at home...too loud to fold with at work...).

Overclocked the GPU a bit to 900MHz, running a 8033 project at 6 minutes per frame. It'll get about 9100 PPD. Still not running very hot, only about 65c.

Your temps are about the same as mine, I don't like them that hot though (well, my GPU in my laptop runs cooler than the GPU in my desktop... haha).

Well, after the first day of folding, I got nearly 40k points. Roughly double what I was getting before. The laptop seems to be averaging between 18k and 20k PPD depending on which projects I get.

If only I waited to get a GTX 680 for the desktop...

Thanks!

I got a 7024 project on the laptop CPU right now, and its estimated PPD is almost 18k, putting the laptop at a total of 28k ppd. Quite the good little folder it is.
