GTX 690 Review

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5795/n...nching-may-3rd

Available May 3rd
$999 MSRP
4gb (2x2gb) memory

So basically no reason to wait for the 690 when you can just get a 680 now and a second one later without really being any more expensive than a 690. This also still leaves value in getting the upgcoming 4gb versions of the 680.

$1K...

WTF.

That's horrible. Double the pricing of the 680?

Availability is going to be a joke.

I'd take two 680's over this any day for the same price.

Yep I already have a waterblock for when I get the second one in a year or two (or at least when they're not 400+ dollars still )
Now that they have the Z77 boards that can handle the multiple x16 lanes I could run them full out with one of those not that they exactly saturate a x8 lane anyway,
or I could upgrade cpus and get a 50 core beast when they release that in a couple of years .

what would you do with 120fps besides brag about the fact you have 120fps.

its pretty much the same thing as owning a 500k sports car when the speed limit is 55 either way.

Overpriced for sure. Dont need a expensive SLI board to run the GTX690 though. But then if you can blow $1000 on a card, the SLI board is going to be silly change. Mostly meant for the 27+inch/3D surround I guess.

It's the same. exact. price.

680's are $500. Twice that is $1000.
690 is $1000.

Yeah based on that pricing, I can't see any reason whatsoever to go with a GTX690 over dual GTX 680's. I guess unless you have a motherboard that only has one slot, of course anyone buying a GTX 690 would certainly not have a single slot motherboard.

Main reason I can see for getting the 690 is if you want to run quad SLI but only have two slots, or purely for the looks.

It's actually cheaper than almost all the GTX680s atm. The MSRP is $500, but almost anyone that gets them in stock charges between $530 and $600 at major sites/stores. (We'll see if this will translate to the 690). The 690 is also downclocked 91mhz.

Not to mention it's hard to find them in stock unless it's a lesser site that you don't want to risk a $500+ investment on a potentially bad return experience.

2 things I find odd, are the availability almost a month after launch is still dismal and they haven't released a new driver for the 680 since launch (the one they released had no changes for 680).

I expect they will both suffer from the same production shortage since they are using the same processors. And I expect the value will be the same. You are correct that most 680's are currently above MSRP due to the lack of production, but I expect the same will be true of the 690 as well. So I assume if you see 680's going at 550, instead of 500, you will also see the 690's going at 1100 instead of 1000, purely a guess on my part, but that is what I expect.

Considering 680 production is non-existent, and 690's are binned, this is turning out to be a pretty bad thing for Nvidia.

The taxes on a GTX 690 could buy a graphics card good enough to play the same games (of course at a lower setting)
