36 is in sight!

Finally, it looks like we are going to go up a number. At least, 36 is at approximately a week.

I remember when were we in the mid to upper teens. Many years ago. We don't have the head count that we used to.

I remember that too. What ever happened to everyone and the old "drive"?

Old "DriveEuro" used to live at home with parents and was single. He sunk tooooooo much money into FAH. Now he's married and has a house. Not as much money available.

Now the old "drive" that the team used to have... Well, there used to be more people willing to shell out the money on the high end systems. Not so much now. Honestly, part of it might just be the recession. We used to have more motivation from other folders in the team too. Or friendly competition. Guys like Mike047 used to push us. He tried to challenge me to a 1,000,000 or something like that. There's not so much inner team challenges anymore. Go check out [H]ard|Forums if you want to see inner team challenges. That is a very successful team.

Also, this forum doesn't get as much traffic as it used to.

I would be more than willing to sink $5k-$6K into a bad *** rig like the 4Ps (I think) two of our users have but I don't have $20 right now. And won't for at least a month. But I should put out a bit more than I was for the last month or so.

If electricity wasn't so **** expensive I'd be folding again too. I remember when we were in the top 10, and then teens.

Why do I have 2-4p and a 2p? Jmossman inspired me. The more I read about folding the more I believed in it, and I was looking for a way to donate more to charity and I'd like to help find cures for the diseases that folding is working on. Yeah, I know this doesn't count for IRS, but not everything is about them.

I was folding with my desktops and my 2p (vm server for home lab), but they didn't produce much and made my office extremely hot. Then...I decided to buy a 4p and got carried away and bought a second 4p motherboard for ($650) while the first one was being repaired. Then, I found 4 12 cores on ebay (2 for 350 each and 2 for 400 each). So now I have 2 4ps and 1 2p. I've mostly been folding with the 4ps since they use less power than the 9 desktops I was running and produce 30 times as many points/work. I ran the 2p over the weekend and its not sending the results, so it will be running a bit longer.

I still have a heat problem as the days are getting warmer. I have to move the 4ps out of my office if I'm ever going to be able to fire up my gaming computer again. I also don't have enough power in the circuits to turn everything on at once. As it is, I have to be careful to keep my 4ps working along with my home servers. The 4ps are rather energy efficient about about 600 watts each at full load.

I'd be happy if we can get a few more people folding. Yeah, I know I can produce more than most, but that's not what it's about and the 4ps don't do the type of work units that the desktops do or GPUs do. All of it needs to get done.

Sounds like it's time for a little wiring. One 20A breaker for two rigs should be enough. So just give every outlet it's own breaker.
Side note about cooling rooms. I've been wondering about doing something a bit like a water cooling set up out of a window. A couple truck radiators, a pump, some tubing, and four box fans. in push pull on each radiator. It won't cool that much but I think it could just help get rid of some heat. Although most of you with non salt air out the windows could put a fan up top (pushing out) and one down low (pulling in). Or maybe one of those blower fans from a central air unit. Could just mount that to the ceiling and vent it out the window.

Only problem is that once I have enough power, I have to have more cooling. That's why I came to realization that I need to move the 4ps to different rooms. BTW, I don't have Air Conditioning but it was too hot even in Winter!

OK, you set up a WC loop and have the Rad be a car Rad mounted on the roof.

Maybe, I could adapt a window air conditioner for the radiator cooler.

If you didn't want to spend a lot on the electricity, you could mod one of those solar powered roof vent fans. or you could duct tape an 20 inch box fan to it for active cooling.

In all seriousness, it could be neat to do a water cooled cpu and/or gpu cooling and run the radiator portion outside of the house. That would be a neat way to dump the heat outside without changing the cooling load for the house. With a near by window, some extra tubing and a bit of scrap wood, you could dump the heat from the CPU outside your house. The only bad part is you would be adding some heat to your components due to the ambient temp out doors, but as long as you make sure the sun isn't baking the radiator, you should still come out better than air cooling if you are running a 100% load.

I don't have any waterblocks, but it would be cool to rig something up. Alternatively, I could duct air more directly...hmmn.

I used to put my PC on a stand right in front of my AC (window unit) back when I was on my 939 A64 X2 4200+ I could hit 2.9GHz when I did that. Couldn't fold on that but i was in gaming heaven.

Never had a lot of $ I've not worked in 5 years but I think I found an opportunity for myself locally and I'm pursuing that, would like to get myself something more up to date.
My computer is 5 years old now but as long as it doesn't catch fire I'll keep using it.
Want to see tight on money? My budget for a month is about 550$ power, water, food, land, fuel, repairs, clothes,a cat, etc etc.

Its been a few years since i have had a system running, let me fire this up and see what i can get.

I noticed the install and interface is much simpler than it was years ago

Additional Comment:

Estimated 7000-8000 ppd running SMP + GPU client might be a little too lower to justify my electricity costs
