Radeon X1650 PRO cooling system posibility

I have Powercolor Radeon X1950 PRO 512MB PCI. It came with broken accelero X2 cooling system. Fan is out of order.

So with heatsink being intacted i came up with idea of putting bigger fan on heatsink to cool the card. I had in plan 8-12 cm fan with quite power.

So my question is, would it be enough? And what kind of fan should i put on it?

Here are pictures of card with heatsink from few angles so you can get the picture what kind of hs is and card.

Any fan will be fine. The fan on the Accelero was only like 25 CFM. Most any 80mm or 120mm fan will be more than that. Brand or manufacturer won't matter.

This is correct. You might get more noise due to an imperfect balance of the blades or a crappy motor if the fan is super cheap, but that's not much different than Cooler Master anyway.

Those cheap 3$ fans have rifle or sleeve bearings and some of them might not like to be mounted a certain way. I would look into a ball bearing fan if possible. 92mm should do the trick, but if you can rig a 120 mm fan on there you could get way more airflow than the stock accelero. Most 120mm fans are capable of between 50-100+ CFM.

As long as GPU stays cool i dont care for noise

I went for one for 5$, and yes it has sleeve bearing, but i read on some chinese forum that CFM is around 100 and i snapped it. All others ware undescribed and CFM specified 20-40. Since i wanted as much CFM i can get for cheapest price i went for that one, and i hope ill get it unless they cheat whit stickers on items.

When i get the fan, in 2-3 weeks, ill do the mounting and post pictures of it. Also ill do do some testing/overclocking so post results too.

Tnx for help once more!

Sleeve bearing should not be mounted horizontally. They are supposed to only be mounted vertically, such as in the rear of the case in the exhaust section.

Seriously, it really doesn't matter. It's a $5 fan. It's lifespan will still be years.

Finally, took me month and some more to get this card going.

I have put 70x70x15 cooler on it fixed with two screws in heatsink gaps. Cooler is Foxconn PV763DJ4, around 35CFM not sure of it, 6000 RPM, but any fan in like this one would do.

In game i haven't seen temp go beyond 52 *C, here are some screenshots. I played Warcraft3 and KOTOR1 on full details 1280*1024.

Idle temperatures are 40 *C, as pictures show.

Only "problem" that with fan installed as it is there are significant changes in airflow thru case and around gpu.

As picture shows with fan and card positioned as in my case, the hot air would have no were to go so it would fast overheat, because fan would imediately suck in hot air. That's why you can, temporary - remove case, and later instal fan on that side of case in spot where it will pull out hot air from GPU.
