I just know what I like. The Multi is flat out the best motorcycle I have ever owned. I went through a list with my brother comparing bikes we have owned and I have owned some pretty cool bikes. But the Multi just does everything well. My only compaint is in the process of being remedied when Continental releases the TKC80s in 120 front and 180 rear this summer. Finally a dirt friendly tire.

Of course, when I come bopping down a single lane dirt track on the Multi and my friends see pictures, I get all kinds of "Are you nuts riding a $21000 motorcycle in the dirt?" questions.

They have a point

But then again, taking a truck with a bike in the back makes for a very un-fun trip to the trails.

Nice bikes all around gents. I had a GS500, but got totaled a while ago. Still debating whether to start riding again.

You should repost those pics! I somehow missed that thread.

I got my license six weeks ago and have racked up about 700 miles of commuting; I've driven my car probably less than 5 times since then

You guys should try riding dirt bikes on the road. Seriously, they're so much better to commute in.

The previous owner put it on; I've since taken it off. Yeah, I'm in San Jose. Make sense?

I wish. The dual-use bikes go for a ton here in Quebec because we can't fit flasher/light kits on regular off-road bikes... it needs to be a bike originally sold for dual-use. (I guess a Yam XT250 '08 for $4,300 is a decent price, tho!)

On top of costing alot, plating them is another premium thanks to our government taxing the bike riders for plates. Its about $360 a year for a 125-400CC bike. Might be more for a dual-use bike.

It's like that in California, too. Not counting weird circumstances, non-road dirt bikes here could be plated by the dealer when sold new (before 2004), which is exactly what my DR is. It has no speedo, odo or tach. But it does have a trip-o!

I don't know too much about the smaller bikes, but $4k for an '08 seems about right. If you want to snag something for $1k, it's going to have to be a late-'80s or '90s bike. You probably wouldn't want to commute in a 250cc thumper in the first place, unless it's bored out.

But $360 a year is ****ing nuts. Jesus Christ. I pay less than that for my two bikes and car combined.
