Forgot to upload the CPU_Z's
Hi Mr. Scott well I forgot to upload the CPU-Z items you asked for sso here they are. Man this computer is frustrating me to the max I'm about ready to
tear it apart and save everything except the mobo I'm ready to toss it in the trash and try something else. Now when I boot up it says invalid raid set but when I go into the raid utility both drives show up but it says one is invalid. So now what do I have to start from scratch and low level format the drives and reload everything GOD I hope not. TY again Dave W.

They are in the right place
Hi Mr.Scott I do believe I've got the sticks in the right place the 2 slots right next to each other correct?
Oh I see looked at your picture again I thought to use dual channel you put them in the slots right next to each other but I see what you mean 1 goes in the slot all by itself and the 2nd next slot over OK I willmake it that way. By the By I decided to start from square 1 well I really had no choice I got into the raid setup utility and deleted the raid array and created a new one hoping that would clear up the issue oops I was wrong I had no choice but to do a low level format and reload I'll get back to you when it's up and running again. I was going suggest that earlier, the fact Mr Scott was handling the threat so well, I was busy so I left him to it.

What brand CPU is that?
I meant to ask what brand of CPU cooler is that and are they still available? Oh I am up and running again I took the plunge and started from scratch, I just have to install drivers and service packs then I'm going to try the bios you sent me,will let you know what haps. Oh I put the ram the way you said and low and behold the post screen says dual channel ddr enabled so now I've got it right. The CPU clock is set @200 and I set the CPU voltage @ 1.65 v. still running 1.47 ghz.
Additional Comment: Well Mr.Scott I guess I'm stuck with a 1.47 ghz. machine it just does not like the bios you sent me, tried loading the optimized defaults which sets the CPU Clock to 200 and I set the CPU volts to 1.65 v. and save then it won't even post and I have to clear the CMOS and flash the old bios back in. If you have any suggestions I'm here and listening. Catch ya later my friend. Dave Walton Last edited by Rockman99 : 06-04-2012 at 07:14 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

The cooler is a self modded Hyper 212+. Yes, they're still available but not compatible with socket A unless you fab your own holdown.
I got nothing on your board problem. It's truly odd. Never seen the FSB jammed on 133MHz. I suppose it could be a bum processor. Do you have another to check it with?, or it could be just the board is shot. Your Raid array was corrupted. That tells me ram problem, drive problem, or PCI/AGP frequency too high. AGP frequency is set on 66, right? Last edited by Mr.Scott : 06-04-2012 at 05:11 PM. |

I am really stumped I ran the ram through memory test and it passed, I just finished running the drives through Maxtor's testing program and they passed with flying colors and they were showing as an invalid raid set again but after testing she booted up fine tell me should the FSB jumper be on or off and I have all the other settings in Genie bios at factory except CPU clock which is 200 and the CPU Volts @ 1.65 v I talked with a DFI engineer this morning and he gave me a link to another tool to check the processor with. So I will go grab it and check it out.
Additional Comment: Well I put an Athlon 2000 chip in and it's running @1.67 ghz so I'm going to leave it in it's a little faster. Mr. Scott could you tell me about the other settings in the Genie bios? ![]() Additional Comment: Well I've come to the conclusion this board is toast I bought an ASUS A7N8X mobo on eBay brand new so we shall see what it does with my Barton core XP 3200. meanwhile I'll play with this rig and see what happs. Have you tried different RAM? I had the same problem on a different board and it was from the RAM. Had to run the chip underclocked for it to post. I switched out the RAM and BAM full speed.

That's why I bought the ASUS A7N8X mobo it's brand new and I will put it in right away and make sure there are no issues. Hopefully it will let me run at what I'm after. To Dark Tower87 The ram is brand new and I tested it right away when I started having issues it's the board it's locked at 133 mhz.
Additional Comment: Well I tried another AMD processor I have and it's running at 2 Ghz so I am running it for now the Asus board arrived today so I am going to see what it does with my Barton Core. Will let you all know. Thanks for the kind advice and help. Last edited by Rockman99 : 06-09-2012 at 11:11 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Hi Mr.Scott,
Sure put the Modded bios for my Asus board up here.Do you know Asus boards fairly well? If you do could you enlighten me please? Like 1st for AMD processors should the FSB jumper be in the 200 position or the 400/333/266 and what settings should I use if want my Barton core unit to run @2.4 - 2.8 Ghz stable? |

Mr. Scott - what is a modded bios exactly? Is it GUI changes or something for better overclocking...?

I'm not Mr.Scott but will try to answer
Hi a modded bios is .bin file that you download from the Mfgr. of your mobo and there are tools that you can use to mod the bios, its done in DOS from CMD or command prompt they are:CBROM, and MODBIN also another tool I use is called EPA Coder which allows you to change the LOGO that is displayed when you go into the bios settings. The main reason for modding a bios is to add chips to it or making other changes you need. I got into it cause I like to make everything in my computers personal like on my bios's I create a custom logo and I use CBROM to put it into the bios I use MODBIN to change the bios message like my company name and the date I put the unit together. I am uploading a shot of the logo I put in. Maybe Mr.Scott will give you a more detailed answer to your question.

I mod for maximum overclock and bandwidth. Mostly romsip algorithms for faster speed and tighter timings for maximum memory bandwidth. Also to un-hide items that were hidden and sometimes to add options that were never in the bios to begin with.
Bios modding is a dark art that is almost forgotten now. There used to be many good modders out there. Now there is only a couple. If you benchmark, it's almost a must if you want to be competitive. Rocky- need to know the exact model of your board. Example: Deluxe or not, Rev. 1.0 or 2.0, and E or X model or not. Need this to ensure I send you the right bios. They're not interchangeable. The Jumper should be in the 400/333/266 position. Settings for the 3200+ will be dependent on the ram and your method of cooling. A 24/7 stable 2.8MHz will probably be out of reach. Most socket A's will never even see 2.8 for anything other than a quick bench without extreme cooling. A stable 2.6 is more the norm. 11x multi is a good starting point. If it's an unlocked chip higher would be better. FSB will be dependent on your ram and the speed it can tolerate. That board is not known for a screaming FSB. You'll need to set the NB volts to the max and have active cooling on that too. 11x230 = 2530 see if you can do this. It's a good starting point. Bios attached.

What cooler would you recomend?
Mr. Scott TY for the info not sure on what NB refers to is that memory? What cooler would you recommend? I have a Thermaltake Volcano PN.1725 I believe
is that sufficient? WOW your numbers are great I only hope I can do close to those, I'm dreaming of course I have a lot to learn about O'cing. |

NB= NorthBridge
That would be your chipset. The Volcano is a big copper block. That will be fine. Need a lot of CFM from the fan though. Try to find a Tornado to put on it. ![]() For NB cooling on these older boards this is a top contender. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835119079 |
