Anyone used EVGA's step up during a next-gen release before?

I bought my 560TI 2GB S/C in late april. soon there after I got into the step up for a Vanilla GTX680(not even 2-3 days afterwards I had decided). My spot in the queue-- 750?

My spot in the queue today, 2.5 months later-- 598.

I have to imagine that the only reason I'm coming down is because people are just giving up and going with lesser cards that might have more in-stock volume and thus less wait time. At this rate I'll have a card *just* before the next generation comes out.

Does it normally take this long? I'd like to have a card before the end of the year(currently I'm projecting on recieving a card in Feburary of 2013..), and there are also the implications that the card's value may *drop* before I actually get my card-- but of course I can't get out of it in order to adjust my stepup price.

I used it when their classified mobo's first came out. The problem with step-up is that it's given the lowest priority for what inventory they do receive since they're not making as much money off of them. So if they get 100 cards lets say, maybe 85 go to retail partners, 10 go to covering RMA's and 5 go to covering step-ups. And with the low volume of GTX680's, that's just exasperating it. I literally think I've seen them in stock twice in the two months since they've come out. Add to that the fact that eVGA has to fill up like 7 different card models, and you can see why the step up line doesn't move terribly quickly. I know for a fact that I could have gotten my mobo faster if I had just bought it retail, but then I would have eaten the cost of the board I was stepping up from. So it comes down to is waiting that long worth saving money to you?

The GTX 680's are nearly impossible to find, they claim they are shipping them out regularly but clearly that can't be the case since they are never in stock anywhere, unless by shipping them out regularly they simply mean they send one card out every couple weeks.

Anyways, I got tired of waiting for the GTX 680 and went with the 670 SC 4gb instead. It's almost identical performance plus you get 4gb's of memory. You can still get the 2gb version as well for about $100 less.

In BF3 I get about an average of 30-40fps settings are all on Ultra, everything maxed and I'm running at 5760x1080. It looks great, I have no problems in game, I can even play the 64player maps now. Obviously more fps would be better (might add a second card soon), but it's a huge improvement from my old system. On my old system using a 5870 all settings on low I was basically getting the same FPS (roughly 30), but obviously graphics didn't look nearly as nice since everything was set to low, and I wasn't able to play on 64player maps, too much stuff going on around me would just bog down my old system.

Diablo3 doesn't seem to be impacted much, I was on max settings before running a steady 60fps, and that still seems to be the case. Even though I have vsync off, it still sits at 60fps 99% of the time. So they seem to be limiting it somewhere.
