Life expectancy of a PSU

My Thermaltake ToughPower 850 watt has served me well since 2005. What is the typical life expectancy of your PSU's? When should they be replaced (til death do us part)?

When should they be replaced (til death do us part)? Yupper, or they can no longer hold correct voltages. Capacitors loose their ability to hold a charge over time.

It depends mostly on how long the fan or electrolytic capacitors last.

I have a TV made in Japan in 1976 that's needed only 3 capacitors replaced, but the digital converter box sitting on top of it blew a half dozen caps in 2 years. I also have a PSU from 1999 made with all Japanese caps. 3 years ago, I removed several of those caps and found they were all fine for ESR and capacitance. OTOH the vintage 2005 motherboard connected to it blew several of its Chinese Ltec brand caps in under 4 years (yet never froze or rebooted from that).

Fans are rated for about 2-7 years or continuous use, while capacitors are rated for about 4-8 years at typical internal PSU temperature, but some capacitor makers seem to greatly exaggerate their ratings.

The 850W ToughPower was advertised as having all Japanese caps, but JonnyGuru found a few tiny ones were Taiwanese Jun-Fu, probably not in any circuitry involving high stress, so they'll probably last forever:
