Folding from USB

I have an extra pc sitting here that I have borrowed a few parts from and it would make a great addition to my foldings. It has everything except a HDD, so I wanted to know how to set it up to boot from a USB stick. I looked through the guides, but they are a bit out-dated. Any info would be cool.

Thanks,
Des

You can even do a persistent install of Ubuntu on a thumb drive.

a quick note, its slower than picking up a cheap second hand HDD. try fleabay or your local CEX for a drive to chuck in there. i am using an old 40gb PS3 drive in one of my machines

I'm sure you can find a HDD laying around. Personally I would just throw a post on FB to see if any of my friends have one laying around.

If you don't have numerous spare hard drives laying around, then you are not a real computer nerd.

For folding, you really won't see any speed difference. F@h only writes every 30mins to the disk.

You can look at the linuxforge image, which is already set to run on an usb.

why do you need to do that, just plug the USB drive in put the cd in teh cd drive and install onto the USB stick - that how i did anyway, after installing i removed the CD drive to reduce power consumption (dunno how much difference it would make but whatever)
