Comic-Con: Firefly's Ten Year Anniversary Focuses on the Fans

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/...es-on-the-fans

Quote:
Browncoats don't kid around. As soon as the Firefly tenth anniversary panel was announced, fans were ready to commit hours to standing in line to get in line for the hour reunion with the cast and crew. Though a few people had to drop out because of scheduling issues, a decent chunk of the band got back together to talk about the series they love. Panelists included Joss Whedon, Jose Molina, Tim Minear, Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, and Adam Baldwin. Though they didn't announce any sequels or reboots or relaunches, they made every fan in Ballroom 20 smile and several of them cried.

Of course, it would have been more awesome if the entire cast were there, but it was already hard to give the panelists equal amounts of speaking time since they had less than an hour on stage. You could tell they could have gone on and on, and fans would have hung on to every word. They discussed the creation of the show, characters, casting, and what the fans mean to them.

...

The question that closed the panel was from an audience member. He asked Joss what the fans meant to him. Joss paused to consider; he appeared to be stifling some serious emotion. As he composed himself, the audience started clapping. Everyone rose, and the applause was downright deafening. The cast and crew on stage rose, Fillion and Joss wiped away some tears, and clapped right back.

Joss finally spoke and said “When you come out of a great movie, you feel like you’re in that world. When you’re telling a story, you’re trying to connect to people in a particular way. It’s about inviting them into a world. The way you’ve inhabited this world, this universe, you have become part of it. When I see you guys, I don’t think the show is off the air. I think there’s spaceships and horses - the story is alive.”
Tech or not, this is news.

Long live Firefly!!!

One of my favorite series, pity it only lasted 1 season and 14 episodes, can't understand why the canned it the way they did. Love the movie too.

FOX is run by the alliance. Love the show and movie to bits... have re-watched both countless times.

Never understood this level of fanatacism towards a TV show. Especially one that got canned after a single season. How is this news anyway? All Whedon did was talk mince for a while about the show so that the fanatics will keep buying merchandise. No news at all in that.

You either get it or you don't - and most people that have seen the show, get it.

I watched the film, thought it was well done with Fallion good in the role of captain, as was baldwin as the upstart 1st officer type, and staite the sex starved engineer . I get the show, I just dont "get" the fanatacism.

Again this "news" is just a way for Whedon to sell more merchandise for a show that got canned. Move on already.

Like Star Trek and Star Wars too, will move on when I'm good and ready. You don't like it don't read the thread. Just about everybody in manufacturing uses something to sell there products, part of life. For somebody who's got a picture of O'Brian in a Star Trek uniform, you haven't done a lot of moving yourself.

Firefly deserves some fanaticism - someone has to show fox what a great mistake they made by cancelling one of the best TV shows ever.

I dont buy merchandise, I dont run around in silly uniforms or costumes unlike some, and I certainly wont go to listen to a 30 minute schpeel about how great it is. I watched the shows and even though I liked them, I know they are "old hat" now and well past what I would consider good programs to watch. If there is nothing else on I will watch them but thats about it.

The avatar choice is from years ago and I like to keep mines the same so it hasnt changed in a long time. Same for the rig in the sig, which is why its nicknamed defiant. It aint ready to give up yet, in defiance of the crap Ive thrown at it. Its not about me being a fan of the show, its just the fact that its something to have in the sig thats nice to look at and is a wee bit relevant. I would be equally happy with a nice scenic view as a sig and a different avy. I frankly just cant be bothered to change it, hence the santa hat in summer.

I should add I also dont get the fanatacism of star trek or star wars either.

I Know a number of people that are that fanatical, one's a Dr Who fan and he travelled to England and many times to Sydney to go to conventions, my brother in law saved half is life to visit Gracelands in the US, people are who they are. I was actually joking about the avatar. I'm not that devoted either, I simply like watching SciFi.

Lex, you do know how the fanaticism of Star Trek was born don't you? Very short lived, fans went crazy etc... Most people today have no idea the original show was in constant turmoil, only lasted three seasons and that was only because of protests brought on by fanaticism.

I'm not saying this is Star Trek by any means, but it was a great sci-fi show that was severed prematurely. Killed by a bad time slot and poor network execution, IMO. It was burgeoning with potential, solid cast, great synopsis and Emmy winning visual effects. I like how it won an Emmy after it had already been cancelled.

Lexandro... is alliance... :/

One thing though, while the movie was excellent, it really doesn't come NEAR the show, in terms of immersion/character development. I don't know what it is, but the show really drags me in. Once I start watching an episode, I usually watch them all. As a fan of the show, I would love to see the cast live @ comic con, even if they blabber on about rainbows and daisies. I won't buy more merchandise just because the captain said to, but too see the characters of the show alive irl, would be pretty epic, I got to say.
