come on guys we need some ideas here.

ok so AMD zone will be catching up and surpassing us in the coming months... What are some ways that we could increase folders... How could we generate maybe some people on here to do it... or get more traffic from outside this forum or switch over from another team...

For me atleast... I wonder if I could get my school to participate in this? We have god knows how many i5 pcs but also servers and big ones (server room or two). Think they could go for it... I mean it does help society...
but anyways any other idea... I know a lot more ppl fold in the winter for cooler climates... but when we add more folding power so do other teams. I know jmossman is out atleast for awhile.

My computer was built in 2007.
=I
It does everything I want still so while I'd like more power and speed I don't have a way to justify getting new equipment.. to myself.

Everyone I know that has a computer (which isn't many people) all complain about heat noise and their electric bills already, they'd not go for the folding thing.

I'm not even sure how you'd convince other people to join in. I fold because it has no effect on me and my computer use other than I have to shut off GPU folding when I play a few games. I spend about 36 hours gaming and playing videos that require me to shut down the GPU--making that swap is second nature, but having performance issues and identifying they come from "that program that makes the computer run hot" isn't a selling point.

I've had a complete computer here with a 8800 and no CPU in it for 3 years now, maybe I'll spend 150$ on a quad core to go into it so it can live again.

Sadly, most of the older members who used to fold are gone or just don't want to bother anymore. I'll pump what I can for as long as I have a home. I kind of wish we could still do something like "Adopt a rig" but it's so hard to moderate that and make sure people won't just keep the rigs or sell them off. We may bounce back one day but the site is shrinking. And not a lot of Extreme stuff is going on anymore so our traffic is lower.

I wish I could be of more help but I'm not a bright person.

We can only do what we can/ in our means. I know two ppl make that 3 people with high performance pcs. Ones a techer so wont ask him prob. Maybe the other 2. I like tht adopt a rig. And i would so do it. Unfortunatly im saving for a second car/ drag car so cant throw much money into a pc :/ i have two am3 mobos sitting here. 2 80 gb hdds. And a few PSUs. I just need rAm, gpu, and proc.
But it would be cool to drum up the brigades again and try to split them up evenly as a starting point then just have goals at the end of the week. The last team get an embarrassing avvy... Like whats happening with urbans thread in B&G

First we need to Create a buzz about folding and get people excited. Also we need to attract more people in. Start creating competition between folders. Have people donate $1-$10 and put it into a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize for the top three folders of the month. You could even collect used PC parts from people willing to donate them and use those for prizes.

Dark tower... those are good ideas... But i think sneevly would take that prize...
but if we make brackets maybe? and everyone who wants to participate gets to choose the money?
all fantastic ideas... Im gonna write up some like rules i guess post em here and revise em...
then post a write up in B&G (since we all know that gets the most traffic). I have already been PMing new people here... and so far confirmed one new person
or even used parts and bring back the adopt a rig thing... I just need the other parts or i could send out my parts to someone

I kick in what I can, but while I'm at work, my rig isn't folding, nor does it fold overnight. Wife won't allow it, and since it's summertime, the ac is working overtime.

the problem we have is money - well i do at least, i cant afford to keep rigs going for more than a few hours each month, and even then i cant afford the begger machines, only an old dual core - blame the drepression, and lack of growth in UK.

You should write up a description of what it is and also mention the potential effect on the computers. I think it would be reasonable for them to run it in 1 core mode on the desktop in the system tray if nothing else.

or over night in one room with 30 i5 PCs or something. Its a good cause but i wonder how much hassle it is to get it in the budget
Would anyone be interested in doing brigades again? Just to make it a lil more competitive...

I tried a while ago, but Jason controls the brigades and doesn't seem to have time to create new ones.

I don't know if you need teams, but 100 people would be a good start depending on what they are running.

50 would be good, too.

How about helping the current people optimize their setups. For instance, I've heard v7 produces more points on Windows than v6.4. If it does, make sure that everyone who is running Windows is using v7!

How about getting people to just run systray? It's relatively lightweight without a lot of heat. I think most people who leave their systems on all of the time won't notice the difference.

Create an interesting signature that advertises, and answer questions/post in every forum here.

Nothing other than maybe 4Ps can compete with high numbers of folders.

I'm getting less points on v7 because it's using core_a4, I'm tempted to switch back to v6.

pckid, I'll stay 11314 for a while and see if you can an drum up some support. I don't really want to be 50% of the team though, so I"m crossing my fingers that your recruiting helps.

As far v7 vs v6.34 goes, my only point was that the people here should optimize their points whatever that takes. I know for a while I was running Windows console and could have produced more points with my 2p a couple of other ways.

You new people must also remember folding produces ALOT of heat, so a good portion of folks drop in the summer. It's been like this for years.
