pckid is new.
Active folders ALWAYS drops in the warmer months for obvious reasons.

The forum goes through ups and downs for activity of folders. It seems like every 2 years there is a surge. I've been here since 2003. It fluctuates a lot.

Also, a lot of people that drummed up interest have come and gone.
.... shroomer, femfolder, mike(something with numbers in his name), killerbeagle, jevans, Hack99, HotRod, mjbservices.....
and even myself to an extent. I've even had swings where I get really into FAH and purchase 8 dual core rigs like I did in 2006. Or an SR-2 like I had last year.

Part of it is the diversity in project type. When they released SMP client, that brought a TON of people to FAH. Then GPU also. As long as Stanford keeps innovating, they'll bring people in. But if Stanford goes stale for a while, people lose interest.

For starters, we need more members. Traffic seems like it has gone down in the past year.

Told you guys... Just let it go. This forum is generally stable. Not tons of newbies. Some people leave, others join. It'll take a lot to get a big surge of people like you're wanting.

Lol I'd opt out for any competition like that, but I would donate.

DriveEuro's right, he's been around for a long time with this stuff. But I do agree with TRYING to increase folders, sure doesn't hurt.

Getting people to understand what folding is can be very easily overwhelming. Simplifying the information on that even further would be a good idea. The installation/maintenance aspect is also intimidating for most people. Guiding people to the simpler forms of folding is the best idea in my opinion, the worst folding machine is the one not running. Trying to get people to run some virtual machines or dive into linux to squeeze out more points, or have people's GPU's overheat if their case ventilation isn't great might actually have a negative effect due to possible frustrations followed with negative feedback.

So I'd just concentrate on that for now. The changes to Stanford's Folding Website is a good example of simplifying the process, along with their new client that came out.

EDIT: Also in regards to the power consumption, I have not personally tried this out due to time constraints but http://power4patriots.com/home.php is some thing to consider for multiple reasons. The battery back up idea and what not is a perk, but I see no reason not to try this. It could possibly offset your electric bills from folding, I don't know haven't done the math. If this is considered soliciting I apologize, please remove my EDIT post.

My work PC is on 24/7 all year round, I have set up F@H on that for the time being while I consider if I can afford the electricity bill of having my home rig (see sig) folding while it is idle.

Work PC:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz
nVidia Quadro FX 370
8GB Memory
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Sorry I can't do more at present but I suppose a little is better than nothing.

How about getting some lower temps? I finally had to shut down one of my 4Ps due to heat for a couple of days. We are pushing 90 which is pretty hot when you don't have AC. I'm going to keep one running. Our temps should be back to normal in a couple of days or so.
