Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti review: The graphics card 4K gamers have been waiting for

Nvidia’s mighty Titan has fallen, as it always does.

Jaws dropped when the second-gen Titan X stomped onto the scene in August, and for more reasons than one. The monster graphics card was the first to ever flirt with consistently hitting the hallowed 60-frames-per-second mark at 4K resolution with everything cranked to 11—but that privilege cost a cool $1,200. Fast-forward five months: Nvidia’s teasing the GTX 1080 Ti as the “ultimate GeForce” card, with more performance than the Titan X for just—“just”—$700. That’s what the GTX 1080 Founders Edition cost at launch, and Nvidia says the Ti stomps the base GTX 1080.

Graphics-card lust truly is the cruelest obsession.

But does the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti live up to Nvidia’s hype? Is this the 4K-capable graphics card that gamers flush with tax-return money have been waiting for?

Yes. Oh my, yes. Let’s dig in.

Word on the street is that it's dropping tomorrow. Actually I'm just hoping, but the rumors abound...

I want to, but I just can't. I know the GTX 1180 or 2080 (however the hell they decide to name it) should be out by the end of the year and I JUST bought a 1080. Looking at the projections Volta is supposed to be an even bigger jump from Pascal than Pascal was from Maxwell and because of it, I just can't justify the price. Not to mention, I'm at 1440P and the 1080 destroys all the things at this res anyway.

That being said....that card is foooking sexy =D

Looks like only fe will be available as reported on reddit. I just want a solid date on the strix... feels like I've been waiting forever, good thing I'm patient.

No date yet, but I think it will cost between $750 and $00 US.

I'd be happier with 750.... not a bad premium for the upgraded pwm and custom cooling, those blower coolers are obnoxiously loud. Or if it's 800 if have to consider a cheaper card plus a water block since I have everything else for water already.

Additional Comment:

So I just got done reading this reddit and now I'm thinking about an FE card with an ek waterblock. MSI is making this seahawk which may be a bit cheaper than buying ala carte.

If additional phases and upgraded vrms won't oc better than I guess it comes down to best (and quietest) cooling for the buck.

Ugh i wish Vega would've came out as soon as Ryzen, we need competition on both fronts. At this point even if it matches the 1080 it's going to have to priced aggressively. Which i guess i'm okay with given the trends of AMD's hardware aging better but still.
