are you gonna vmod the memory? otherwise it would be useless since BGA memory runs really cool.

Supplies, etc.
Simply got the 90's (Brass elbows) from professional plumbing supply store. They ran around $2.00 each (I used 10).
Mapp torch, solder, resin at home depot, about $20.00. Temps? (All measurements from same physical spot under madonion nature stress.) At 360 Mhz and factory cooling, I read 60C on the memory. Air cooled with copper BGA airsinks I got 47C Water cooled I get 2-3C higer than my H2O (Max of 34C under load) The cool thing to report is that by removing the cumulative heat of the memory from my PCB board, my GPU temps wemt down another 5-7C! (Associative heat!) ;-) |

Stalka...very carefully!
Attached very carefully! (lol)
Used loads of masking tape to protect the card from scratches and erroneous adhesives. Then I used artic silver epoxy. Pretty permenant. If I pull this card from a water sytem I'll probably leave the fittings on as air sinks. I have pulled some off before after using this particular epoxy after freezing and twisting....it will come off, but is risky and as fun as pulling teeth. |

Yes, I lapped and polished....
Stalka,
Yes I lapped the two surfaces that mate to the chips simultaneously after building each block, This ensures that the mating surfaces are dead even (on plane) and allowed excellent fit (contact) on each pair of chips. I started with a flat metal rasp, and then 100, 200, the 330 Grit sandpaper, followed by 000 and 0000 steel wool for the surfaces that will be showing after mounting. I actually ended up lapping both the buisness side and the show side of each block beacuse it also improved looks...but I deliberately just got it "good enough" on the show side and concentrated hard on making the business side really smooth and even. Then brasso and rags....(my wife HATES the smell of brasso, so I was kicked out to the garage for a while....) Lot's 'o work, but I am happy with the results. |

New links....
Well, looks like my images at the other site are blocked, so here is my attempt to post them directly.
I posted on a couple of forums to share the idea...one of the things I enjoy about the overclocking community is that idea sharing breeds better success for all of us....my design has already been improved upon by suggesting we lighten weight by using plastic fittings on the top-to-bottom transfer that I chose to make out of brass. Not as pretty but probably better from a weight standpoint. Oh, and the fittings I used were all ½” ID, and the hose used is 3/8” ID. |
