Question 9700 pro temps

What's the ideal temperature and maximum temperature (before it starts malfunctioning) of the ati 9700 pro?

to get an accurate reading stick a temp probe on the back of the gpu, if u touch it and u can barely keep your finger on, then the core is too hot.

Hey Vicious? not that i want to add more heat, but does it help the VC overclock by upping the volts in bios like it does with the cpu,or does it not matter?

from my experience it does not help to increase AGP voltage.

well, i have a temp sensor near my 9700 pro, and its recording 120 F when i play games. I don't know how accurate this sensor is. I haven't experienced any instability at all yet, and I've been playing C&C: Generals alot lately. Any suggestions?

From my experience, it does help to increase vagp voltage to about 1.7v. You should be able to hold your finger to the back of your gpu without having to remove it (idle). If you have to remove finger after 1-4 secs, then it is too hot. More than likely, your HSF is not making solid contact with the gpu. To remedy this, you will need to remove the shim between the HSF and the gpu. Just get a razor blade to get underneath the shim and pop it loose. When I air cooled, this made a major difference. Oh, also use AS3 when going back together with it.

from my expierence, agp voltage has no effect on OC'ing the video card at all unless you want to keep the AGP stable when you're not using a board with locked pci/agp.

Hi, I've heard of people f**in up there card doing that,i cant afford to loose this one i bought it on ebay,no RMAing.

Also i talked to ati,on the phone, the guy told me that it is perfectly fine if it gets that hot,it is meant to.he said you should not worry about not being able to touch it without it burning,he repeated that it is normal and to have no worries.

What domyou guys think?"

Yeah, I'm buying an ATI Radeoon 9700 Pro and it is going to have a Zalman ZM80-HP VGA Heatpipe Cooler so I hope that that will keep it cold enough to where I don't have to worry about.

Sounds to me like your getting paranoid, it is perfectly fine that they get from 40c-60c. NO high-end card these days will allow you to keep your fingers on them w/o it getting to hot.
