Sorry.. i have no benchmarks for you but i have to ask one question... what are your clock speeds on that 9800np? From what i've read, did you know you can flash it with a 9800pro BIOS and have it run at default PRO speeds?

The stock cooling shouldn't be a problem... after all, the PRO is just an OC'd NP, same card, different speeds.

but theres gotta be a downfall, 100 dollars in price difference is not worth an overclock or is it?

I just recently found out about the BIOS flashing so im looking for the PRO_BIOS as we speak. I found a discussion on it and its successes here... Rage3d

PS- Im a member there(BigE4u) and im trying to get the rest of the info from the person who posted it, remember that the card in question and used is the SAPPHIRE 9800NP from NewEgg.

:EDIT: Download for 9800pro BIOS(98-8004.BIN)

:EDIT2: Download for Utility FlashROM13.zip

PLEASE READ RAGE3D INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY for i will NOT be held responsible for any misguided attempts.

Big, would u rather spend the extra money and get the 9800np and mod it to a pro, or would u get the 9500np and mod it to a 9700? wut do u think is a better bang for the buck?

Where did most of those guys from Rage3d get their 9800np cards? and what percentage of ppl actually got the 9800np > pro mod to work?

And what brand specifically do u recommend that I get? Some have better ram right? which ram usually works the best??

Thnx..

Since there is a way to have your cake and eat it too with the 9800NP to 9800PRO BIOS hack... i'd go with that. Problem with finding a 9500NP that would soft mod, they are getting extremely rare now and theres NO guarantee that the one you buy will work and its too much hasle to keep sending it back till you get one that finally works. Best bang for buck is to buy the 9800NP card and convert it, go with the SAPPHIRE brand card, the guys at rage3d are using that one mostly with great success. They were picking up that card at NewEgg but if you can't find them there anymore, you'll have to lQQk elswhere... some got lucky with 2.8ns mem on them but i think the majority come with 3.3ns, either way, according to those at rage3d, both mem types worked. I personaly can't vouch for the BIOS mod because i never owned a 9800np, im into Nvidia only at the moment. If you do buy one and plan on doing the mod, make sure to BACKUP THE ORIGINAL BIOS before any atempt is made. I suggest you read through all the pages in the rage3d link i provided and take it from there... good luck!

Yup-

That's the right one-

Also look at www.BuyExtremeGear.com-

They have the Sapphire Atlantis radeon 9800 for $231.00 w/FREE Shipping-

Beware and read the fine print on like the Power Colors or they goin' to hand u a 9800se that takes you right back to the dark ages

Happy trails
