I recently got norton, and it makes things run slowly because it scans a lot of files before they are used. If the scan takes a long time, a little box will pop up in the bottom right of the screen.

norton blows because it scans files, emails in and out, ect. sure, it might keep your pc locked up tight (or it may not) but its not worth the resources and time it uses. i normally don't screw w/ a virus scanner at all, act halfway intelligent on downloads, and install security updates. sometimes i scan with whatever that thing online is, housecall or something, and its never found a virus except for when that first strain of m$blast came around in august.

I havn't ever had a single anti-virus software ever installed in my PC.

Sure I get a virus every so on, but who cares I just format disk and reinstall Windows.

Ha, all you n00bs. I have my Norton 2004 setup to only scan .dat and a limited number of other file types. It only scans .exe files, not all the other ones loading, so my games and stuff still run just fine.

norton 2004 seems quite random. the first time i installed it i had no problems. Then i re-formatted when i got some new bits and when i installed it again it slowed my system to a crawl. So i removed it, when i got a virus i reformatted and installed it again no problems. its wierd. the same thing used to happen with 2003, sometimes no problem, sometimes killed my system...

Pfft...Norton!

I downloaded the trial version and was told i've already used it for 20 days! Besides, I had a virus some time ago which infected about a 150 files (it infected EXE files), and Norton always got stuck while trying to fix it. It was ridiculous. Now I use EZ Antivirus, possibly the best one out there. That thing scans sooo fast...And actually works!
