Just updated the list with a couple links to CPU testing programs. The StressCPU is supposed to be really good and runs a few degrees hotter than if you were running a regular gromacs core. It was primairly designed to stress SSE on AMD CPUs, but I suppose you could run it just as well on Intel. They only have a windows version though.

jason- Under monitoring programs, you can add the karamba them by Jason Strutz that I tweaked.
http://overclockix.octeams.com/folding-karamba-0.5.tgz You need either karamba or superkaramba installed in your Linux distro, and it only looks right running in KDE. And if you guys ever get a team build of Overfoldix, you should link that too. Soon enough a version of Overclockix will be finished which is pre-configured to run as an LTSP/NFS/DHCP server and will PXE-boot clients that will fold automatically. I'll post the link once I've verified that it works as billed. Basically boot the CD, cofnigure the client(s) with the command cfgfold, run the terminal server script, and then boot each client from the network, they will fold automatically- the 5 minute PXE folding farm. Wu progress must be saved on the server in a persistent home if running from CD, figure on needing 32mb + 10mb of ram and hdd or usb pen space on the server per folding instance to be safe, if running from CD. HDD-installing cuts this requirement significantly, but you'll need a 2GB+ HDD drive to do it. I recommend a UPS for the server, but its not absolutely necessary. Edit: done, just testing the LTSP scripts and adding SMP detection to the folding init script, then I'll update my site as soon as I can distribute it to my hosts. Overclockix LTSP is now available. The definitive LTSP folding resource- simply the easiest and fastest way to get a PXE-boot farm going. I suggest you mention it along with the links for your guides. People without much linux knowledge are usually afraid to even try PXE, but with OCix LTSP, there is no reason to fear!! Last edited by arkaine23 : 04-30-2004 at 06:15 PM. |

looking like 2 of those links aren't working anymore. Also you can start the Windows console version as a service using the "-config" tag in version 5 of F@H. I didn't have to use any utility programs so a couple of those guides are kinda out of date...so shroomers "2 instance" guide is a bit out of date, and you don't need those apps to help run as service anymore.

Hey! The Tweaker's Guide was actually written by me. While I appreciate that twiztdskatr posted it, I'd also appreciate a little credit. ;-) My guide is long overdue for a refresh. On that note, I'd like to mention you, Team EOC and your phenomenal stats page, so consider this a formal request for permission to do so. Thanks Jason, [Ch]amsalot |

A company called StayOnLine sells premade ATX power supply splitters for a very reasonable price. The build quality is very good and the service is also quite fast. Here's the link to their on-line catalog: http://www.stayonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=7898
When building my own folding farm, I found that only one of each pair of motherboards would start up correctly. By experimentation, I found out that the second motherboard of each pair would start if I pressed the power switch and then the reset switch for the second motherboard after the first motherboard was up and running. My farm uses Shuttle MV43N boards; YMMV. |
