Yeah, you have approximately until 2010 to finish Half-Life 1. I hope you can finish it by then.

Half-life 1
Halo 1

2 best games of all time. (so far)

Just my opinion, I grew up in the 4 and 8 bit days, where we werent spoiled with all the flash-blah graphics of today. Plus name 2 other games that have incredible mods and have a similar/better and almost cult like internet following?

just my 2 cents

Me too. Gotta love the original Atari, Intellivision, Commodore 64, and NES. Haha!

I agree with you on Half-Life 1 and HALO. I think Call of Duty may soon have a place in there somewhere because it is easily one of the best first-person shooters ever, to me anyways. And it also has easy access to mods. However, I don't think Call of Duty is a revolutionary game like Half-Life 1 on PC and HALO on Xbox. These two games were 100% original game engines, while Call of Duty was built on a modified Quake III engine.

i forget who, maybe Unreal Sword, told me on aim that Counter-Strike had some 20k ppl playing on average, and like 9k playing BF1942, a 7k playing Call of Duty. i asked him how many ppl were playing StarCraft and he said it was well over 100k!

StarCraft, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, and Knights of the Old Republic are my fav pc games.

Yeah, tons of people play StarCraft on Battle.net. I used to play that game but I got so sick of the hundreds of cheaters who played. It got boring when people would use a hack to lift the "Fog of War" and run straight at you after building a huge army.

My brother beat Knights of the Old Republic on Xbox. It isn't my type of game (RPG) but I watched him play and the storyline is hilarious. You can choose to be evil and just kill people who want to help you. I love when the game gives you the option to say to a group of people, "How about I just kill you all?" Hilarious.

lol ya. i was playing someone before: i had a medium sized army of 20 zerglings with enhanced attacking ability only to find the player's 2nd base with a nexus, a polygon, and one photon cannon. or so i thought...

i sent my zerglings to destroy the small base when i was confronted by a streaming line death. it turns out there were nearly 200 photon cannons built ontop of each other, and i couldn't touch them w/o getting slaughtered!

i sent my guys to kill their main base when they had no minerals or miners left but the small base with the 3 buildings. i finally got me some of the morphed flying thingies and took them out from afar.

pwn3d. the guy offered to give me the cheats in a battle against each other, 1vs1. i did and still beat him, but the trainer was pretty useful. lifted fog of war, allowed u to build over items, give u more minerals per SVC thingy bringing in minerals, etc.

Yeah, when you see the "streaming line of death", you know someone is cheating. By the time you have built a 10 man army they have a 100 man marching band. You know something's up.

true. but sometimes i have 2-3 times more guys then my opponent b/c of my familiarity of the game and how to do stuff quickly and effetiently. but to them it may look like i was hacking and false presumptions are made. that's how u end up getting banned from Counter Strike servers from being good at the game.

Usually in Counter-Stike, if you cam-chase someone you can tell if they are wall-hacking/aim-botting. Or at least I can. When people aimbot, their crosshairs usually jump eratically from target to target. You can tell someone is wall-hacking if they shoot at walls blindly or start shooting at people around corners in which there is no way possible they could have known someone was there. The 43 - 8 score is an indicator as well.

IMO the reason, and this has been stated earlier, that you all don't think HL is that hot is because in the last five years, EVERY FPS to come out has mimicked and piggybacked it's innovations, not just in multiplayer, but in Single Player as well.

It's AI is smart, responsive and, most importantly, varies wildly from enemy to enemy. The fact that it's meant to be immersive, cinematic and levelless, totally giving you the entire storyline without cutscenes and level changes is brilliant and, to this day IMO, unsurpassed. Not to mention the levels themselves are very carefully thought out and logically created. Integrating difficult puzzles without resorting to Key Hunting, I could go on for a long time . . .

It's the little things that make it great to me--like all good FPSs, the ones that stick out are the ones that pay attention to the details.

^^ I agree. The storyline is very much like a Stephen King novel.

It's so dumb when ppl come, 5 years too late, saying they dont understand what's so renewing about a game..lol

Halflife was, and is still the best SP game I ever played.
The whole athmosphere grabbed me and didn't let me go.
(esspessialy with the music in it, you must have you cd in ur cdrom drive for that)

Halflife had the best AI with distance in that time, it had a fantastic atmosphere... and further more i'm not gonna explain why this is the best game ever made ..... 5 years after it's release lol. Says so much about a game that ppl still discuss this now

Halflife 2 will continue this tradition of groundbreaking new gameplay, atmosphere, and will leave all the other upcoming games far behind it.

I promise you that ( or at least i think so) ;]

when talking about Half Life most people keep bringing up the muliplayer aspect of the game as the best/groundbreaking part....i agree with that but that just goes along with what i was saying to begin with that the game (single player) was not the "best game ever" and the game did not deserve all the other high praise heaped upon it...it's a fun and good game yes...but when so many people go around saying it revolutioned the FPS on the PC and is groundbreaking i happen to disagree...i think the original Deus Ex was more groundbreaking and original than Half Life 1

I really liked Deus Ex, but it lacked a lot of the gameplay aspects that HL incorporated so well.

Plus you just move way too slow which hurt your ability to do anything well besides stealth.

Still, the non-linear solutions (multiple ways to accomplish things) that Deus did really well is something I look for in every new game, and rarely find

I installed Deus Ex, played 1/2 the first level, and I'll never play it again.
