Unhappy Windows XP wont close Internet explorer properly!

I have Windows XP PRO it its worked fine up intil recently. All of a sudden it wont close internet explorer properly. When im on it Windows Task Manager says that the CPU Useage is 100% and that iexplore.exe is useing about 96-98% of it! i can close the window but in the task manager it still says that it is running. i cant end the process either! this means that when i shut down windows it says ending program iexplore.exe and names the website i was on before i closed it. Then it fails to end the program so i click end now and it then go's away and just stays at the desktop! now if i click on log off, shut down or restart it wont do anything and even Ctrl-Alt-Del wont work! please can someone tell me what it doing! i have my system specs listed in my signiture.

Have you tried dl spybot software? if you go to add/remove components, you could technically remove soome parts of ie 6 and than reboot and reinstall it again the same way.
