9800np?

would a gecube 9800 np which runs at 325mhz core and 620mhz memory ( faster than ati reference chip) be good enough for like the next crop of games eg half-life 2, doom 3 and stalker? im couplin it up with 2x256mb pc3200 corsair ram, amd 2800+ and asus an78x-e deluxe mobo. it should be a good gaming system... right?

Dude, all NPs are just underclocked pros. you have to flash your bios to get the right voltages to get better OCs.

Every NP that ever shipped says PRO in the bios

Yes but where can you buy a NP for less than a Pro "Now" ?

Maybe I haven't found them, but New Egg sells Pro's for $212.00 or the Retail version $224.00 and so far I haven't found an NP for less than $234.00 !!!

Edit::
Hmm
Looks like they discountinued the 9800 Non-Pro.

Dude Flashing the NP to a Pro does Nothing to the voltages, They Stay the Same. I have watched it on my multimeter when Flashing, because I did'nt want my voltages to go any higher than I set them When I did the Volt mod. Just use the Original Bios, and Modify the Default Clock speeds to a Pro. I have Found that no Bios including the XT Bios works better for My ATI 9800NP than the Stock bios modified. Using the Stock Bios with the card Volt modded 1.9volts on the GPU and 3.2 volts on the DDR Card runs @ 510/368 on AIR. No pelts no waterblocks just Ramsinks and VGA silencer

How to flash 9800np to 9800 pro?

This is a great thread. I just purchased a 9800np from ebay and am waitting on it to arrive. Does it have to have samsung memory to flash to 9800 pro? Also, is it as simple as downloading the latest pro bios and flashing it to my 9800 np?
Thanks,
Sapper

It definitely raises your voltages, you wouldn't notice it during the flash b/c you have to reboot in order to get the new bios to kick in.

It's just like a motherboard bios, have to reboot.

With my npro I could barely acchieve pro clocks, after the flash with nothing else done to it I got a little above XT clocks
