How to uninstall the FahCore

Hey guys. My name is Chris Wade. A friend of mine installed FahCore on my computer without telling me first (text client service). Now this thing is locking my computer up. I've already lost 9 hours of video processing because of this program. I'm running an Intel Pentium 4 2.26Ghz Processor with a 1GB of DDR RAM, Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2. I have tried everything to get this program off of my computer, but it will not leave. It is constantly using 99-100% of my CPU (when I open taskmanager because the computer is locked up) and I will end the process and go search my computer for anything with the word "fah" in it, then delete it (it didn't have anything under add or remove programs), but it comes back immediatly. I have removed virus's and spyware programs a lot easier than this thing. I am losing time and money because of this virus...er...I mean folding program (although I'm finding it hard to find the difference between the two). If anyone can help, I would much obliged. If nothing else, I appreciate your time in reading this post.

Just FYI, FAH is NOT a virus. It is a protein folding program:

Not working

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a noble cause and everything, but it acts just like a virus as far as what it is doing to my computer. In fact, from personal experience, I've never had a virus do to a computer what this program has done. Maybe it's just something going wrong with the program in this instance, I don't know. However, I followed both of those links. The first one didn't tell me anything about uninstalling it. I followed the second link and followed the instructions, but it didn't work. When I opened "Run" and put in FAH500-Console.exe -config the computer gave me an error stating that it didn't know what that program was.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Run > msconfig; establish whether or not it's been installed as a sevice or is in the startup tab. If it's under the startup tab just see where it's located and find at that location using regedit and delete it. If it's a service I'll look up how to remove services if that's the case.

Ok, if it's a service it'll be located here:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es]

Find F@H and delete it.

Or you can just set your video encoding software to work above LOW priority. You can also set FAH to run at IDLE. If you set FAH to idle, then it will not interrupt ANYTHING, unless you are using other programs at IDLE priority.

hmmn, have you used a file sharing program? One team lost a lot of points because someone actually made a fake adobe keygen that loaded FAH as a service. You might ask at the official folding at home forum http://forum.folding-community.org/ I hope this helps.

btw, the console version is pretty rock solid and shouldn't be crashing your computer at all. I would try testing your config out with an app like Prime95 to test your system stability, you could have some more problems other than just lil old F@H.

NP, folding is great and all but if it's put on your computer without your knowledge that's simply hijacking your PC which is unethical.

This is probably the first program to stress his system.
