Can't get Vista x64 to recognize 4GB of memory

Has anyone heard of this? I have 4GB of RAM in my system. 4GB is recognized by the BIOS, and 2.75GB is recognized by my dual boot of Windows XP. Here's a screen shot of system details...

No idea. That's the whole point of 64-bit!

This is really frustrating. I've tried moving around the DIMMs, but I don't see how that should make a difference.... Is there some setting on the 680i eVGA board that I should have to use?

Did you change your bios settings for the Rams.. You need to enable "default memory remapping". Depends on your board it might say something else

no such setting in my BIOS... I have run 4GB on Vista x64 on this board for a customer's computer, but I can't get it to work on mine. Should it matter that the RAM does not all match?

Don't ask why unless you want to join them.
Have you disabled any memory shadowing or memory hole options in BIOS?

If I'm correct, I'm pretty sure Window maxs out at 2GB.

1.) Windows Vista is supposed to work swell with 4Gigs, only XP had problems with that particular issue.

2.)64-bit OS was made to run 4Gigs anyway, weather it be XP or Vista.

32bit runs max of 2gig efficiently yes you can have 4 gigs but would just be a waste

64 is designed to run anything more not capping out at 4 gigs could be more depending on OS. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...ons/64bit.mspx

Additional Comment:

And to closet gamer try reading the manual on your board...I am sure there is a setting in the bios that would allow some sort of memory remapping..

I don't know why I would need memory remapping or any such lame feature. It should be as simple as plug in 4GB, OS detects, enjoy caching and gaming bliss with a 64-bit OS....

You need memory remapping because addresses at the 4GB mark are reserved. Some boards allow you to remap, others allow you to disable the memory hole altogether. Others yet do neither and you get shafted.

I've stated already in this thread that I'm running the eVGA 680i board. I *know* this board works with 4GB because I've done it before. There was no random setting I had to use or anything like that. I put in 4GB, and it was recognized by Vista Ultimate x64 on a customer's computer.

It's a windows thing. I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has encountered it.
