Holy Hot !!!!

Just through my new build together temporarily so I could test the hardware before I mount my water system... I put the stock Intel HSF on with the stock thermal crap on my Q6600 G0. Went into bios and system monitor was reading to CPU @ 50c.... Is something wrong or is the stock HSF that bad... In other words should I be getting nervous????

How long were you in the BIOS for? As far as I know, when you're in the BIOS, your temperatures will get to about where they'd be at ~75% load. So, if you were in the BIOS for long enough you shouldn't be worried at all.

The stock HSF is that bad, but yeah, BIOS temps are generally slightly higher then normal idle temps, made even worse by the fact that the CPU fan doesn't usually spin at 100%.

Was in for about 5 min. I changed the fan parameters to run at 100% and the temp only went down 3c.. If that is true about the bios running the cores up to 75%, then 50c on the crappy Stock HSF isn't that bad. Isn't it?

Get a Tuniq Tower or Thermalright Ultra-120 or Ultra-120 Extreme, The stock HSF is garbage.

Withmy Q6600 finally had to go the water cooling route to get the temps down. With full load on all four cores my temp is @ 50C.

Wait until you WC is installed.. Temps will be more reasonable afterwards. Stock HSF is not the most ideal cooler on the panet.

I just installed my Q6600 g0 stepping last night and at 2.4 Ghz with thermaltake big water se liquid cooling i was averaging 20C, im at3.0 Ghz now and up around 30C. Course i go unstable after that and im no where near max temp, i most have something wrong in my bios!

Anyone have a good site or thread that could tell me what i should have turned on and off in the bios? I have an EVGA 680I mobo.

nope.. your temp readings are just innacurate.. by quite alot i expect.... try a few programs... Intel TAT , Coretemp, seem to be 2 good ones.... failing that go into bios and take a look at the temps in there...
