Its some gimmick thing DFI have done that basically means you can extend the motherboards heatpipe cooling system out the back of your case via the I/O plate.

There is actually two places you can install it...either off the northbridge sie, running outside of your case, or off the southbridge and between your PCI slots. Since there are two places to install it, and only one unit, I ordered a second one. I put a 120mm fan on the one that it came with and it dropped my chipset temps 10C. I am anxious to see how much further they will drop, as the second one will get airflow from my GeminII.

so your chipset is getting so hott that you need extra heatpipe cooling ?
not likely you would probly do better with a 60mm fan |

Well, there is a metal plate that connects the CPU to the heatpipe system, so that all the heat kind of spreads out. Having the heatpipe means spreading the heat even more with less fans.
Besides, no fans <120mm in my rig except on my GTX. |

wow, good news, i was thinking of doing this as well, but i had a thought, heat risere's so that's why i put mine at the highest point, i dont think it will do much by fitting another to the southbridge as mine already runs at good temps, but i would like to be proven wrong so let us know how it all goes.

Well, DFI changed their mind and wont sell it through motherboardpro anymore. I am trying to contact DFI directly to see if I can still get one. If I do, I will let you know.
