Help with TuniQ Tower
First, the instrustions are very lacking in my opinion, as step one just says remove the K8 retention module. I checked the manual to my board and theres nothing in there on how to do it. Im sure its probably easy, but I didnt look at it yet. Anything I should know thats not obvious? Second, it says to place the H plate through the heat sink, ok, no problem. Then it says to place it on the cpu core and insert the screws, then to apply the thermal paste, then to tighten the screws. How are you suppost to apply the paste if the tower is already on the cpu? And lastly, the included fan controller connects to the fan in the tower itself, correct? No power source or anything needed, right? Thanks for the help, Ill post my OC results when Im done. My Crusials came today as well. |

Taking the K8 bracket off is easy.... 2 screws, anyone can figure it out pretty quick. There should be no surprises there.
As far as the Tuniq goes, i have installed one myself before. You want to place the processor in the socket, place the paste on top of it, get the H plate on the Tuniq and try to place the whole unit vertically above the 4 holes that need to be lined up against the backplate. Then you can sit it on top of the thermal paste. You are either reading the instructions wrong or they are wrong, but you do want to put the heatsink on AFTER you apply the thermalpaste, i mean cmon, thats a no brainer! Hopefully once you get the Tuniq on the procesor you wont have to slide it around too much, but you can twist it a few degrees before you start putting the 4 bolts in. Twisting it a few degrees can help get the thermal paste spread evenly. Make sure tighten the bolts a little at a time. Don't tighten 1 of them down fully while the others aren't on, you can mess stuff up there. Get all 4 in there and start tightening them slowly until you can get them tight. Be careful how tight you get the bolts in the end as the heads and the bolts are two pieces and i have heard of people shearing the heads off if you get them over tight. Thats about the only thing i can warn you about the tuniq is the bolts can be broken. I tightened them down good and i had no problems. The guy i heard about that broke his must have been tightening them too hard. As well you won't need a power source for the fan controller, only the fan plugs into the power source. I would recommend plugging the fan directly into the power source, as its very quiet on its full setting. |

In the instructions it says that for K8 you only use 2 screws, and the slots on the H plate for them are not in the corners. They are in a straight line down the middle, where the clip/lever thing goes. I cant really get a mental picture of how the clip is going to fit over the screws with the springs as they would be about a cm high or more. I think Im just going to give it a go and see what happens. I just want to get it done on the first try as I hate removing the motherboard, and having to redue my cable managment(or lack there of).
Additional Comment: And only a rice sized bit of AC5, correct? Additional Comment: This is what Im talking about, http://www.tuniq.com.tw/Support/faq/faq03.htm I dont even see the Hplate in the pics

I installed it on a 775 rig, sorry if i confused you. Not sure about AM2, but it looks easier.
The AS5 should be about the size of a grain of rice, that should be just fine. |

OMG, I fell retarted now
.(lol @ the pink fans) http://www.geardiary.com/2007/10/05/...cooler-review/ The clip thing is all you need, dont even have to take out the motherboard. Im getting to work on this now, I just wish my camera didnt die. Oh yeah, forgot to mention earlier, when I put my Crusials in, I figured out why my temps were so bad to begin with. There was about a full hand size of dog hair through my system . My dog has been shedding the past few months, and my intake fans must have been pulling it in.

My case has way too much intake, and it gets dusty so fast.
I clean it out way too often. Its very easy to let it go too long if you don't pay attention to the temps. Hope it mounts smoothly. |

Finsihed. It takes up about half my case, and took a while to fit the clip on because I didnt take anything out. I bumped it a couple times during install, but I think its fine. Bios reads temps of 27-28C, and Speed fan says 24-29C. Im going to run Prime now and see what load is, then Ill oc some more. I put my results in the AMD section.
THanks |
