Cooler Master Cosmos S Tower Case Review @ EOC!

Following up on the Cosmos 1000 case, we have posted a review on the flagship aluminium model, the Cooler Master Cosmos S.

In the past we have always been impressed with Cooler Master's cases, they really seem to stay on top of the technology and incorporate features that enthusiasts want. Cooler Master never leaves anything at "good enough", with each new case they are constantly refining and improving to make the best product available to the consumer.

I'm loving the whole lack of a door on it. The red theme is cool too.

yes indeed, over all a huge improvement on the first cosmos which is still an awesome case. i also dig the non door. i also have some 15 or so blue led fans and find myself digging the red scheme...

i own this case... it rocks... very pleased... not as good of an air cooler as my nzxt zero because its not as sealed, but i bought it because i plan on going water soon and that triple rad mount at the top is what drove me to snag it...

Additional Comment:

side note... if you have a thermalright ultra 120, forget it... my tuniq doesn't even fit... i had to remove the side fan to get the door to close without the fan pressing on the heatsink... if i had about 2mm more clearance it would fit...

Additional Comment:

because you can turn all the fans out to exhaust and have them draw air through the valley of air on the side of your case...

What's the chance of a thinner diameter fan working out with this setup, will it even matter if it has a side mounted fan? Is the 120s CPU fan close enough to the side vent that it pulls sufficient air?

I am seriously looking at this case because of the bottom CPU mounting so what's your take on this I ALREADY have the TT 120 lol.

like i said its about 2 MAYBE 3 mm shy of fitting... without the side fan there is plenty of room... its kind of hard to explain without a picture but there is a pitch of a few degrees along the inside of that panel... the plastic mount that holds the fan in place has an angle to it... and yes i think its close enough to the side vent that it pulls sufficient air... BUT the unsealed case makes it hard for the fans that are in there do their job... my temps don't reflect as well as they did in the zero because there is nothing really blowing on it to help move more air around...

anywhere you see the wire mesh on the case, its open air... the front drive bay covers, the top of the case where the 3 fan mounts are, and the HUGE side panel... all wide open...

From the Cooler Master forums:

Quote:
The initial launch batch consisting of approximately 2000 pcs will be experiencing the following compatibility issue: Any CPU cooler larger than 12cm will interfere with the side panel closing due to the 200mm fan. We will be providing a replacement side panel for anyone who is using a cooler larger than 12cm, as long as a picture of the incompatible cooler is provided. Every piece there after will have a new side panel which will not have any sizing issues."

Hi All,

The official change of the Cosmos S Revision model will have a model number of RC-1100-KKN2-GP. This is unconfirmed for now but most likely will bare that model number in US.

For the changes:
- Fix door latch
- fix 230mm fan material so it doesn't break easy
- fix paint issue on bottom rails
- fix positioning of side fan to support tall tower

i believe there's more fix but i could not remember on top of my head.

If you're in US, please contact our customer support @ customersupport@coolermaster.com or call 1-888-624-5099 and sign up. The change right now is planning for May but we will create a post to update later.
I might wait for the new batch to arrive before buying one myself.

Is there any more specifics / details on the fixes you mentioned above?

Yes, this case has a LOT of ventilation, on every side (including the bottom). So don't expect that you can seal it up and direct the airflow how you want it (if that's your thing).. But honestly, just use the general rule that "heat rises" and from that you make your front and bottom (and side) fans intake, and the rear & top exhaust...

I plan on moving my WC system over to it, the radiator will fit much better. Right now in my stacker 830 I have mine mounted on the front 4-in-3 module so it blocks all the drive bays but 1 (which has the DVD drive up top)... Not really an issue since all the HDs are in the module. But it would be nice to clean up some of the tubing and make more room and such.

Thank you EOC and Jason for the review.

I bought it today, just finished setting my system inside.
I couldn't be happier (well that's not true, but to be happier would require a few hot blond girls so i'm not blamming you guys for that XD )
It's quiet, it got style and it got space !
I used a Lian-Li maxi tower (can't recall the ref) before, and i'm happy to find as much space as i was used to.
The only downside as it is, the missing reset button.

too much work and it wouldn't be as clean as if it were built-in the same way as the power button.
You know i wasn't *****ing that it had no reset button. I was just giving my feeling about the case, that's it.
