Q9450 Results Thread

I got my Q9450 in the mail today. here's the stock results. The temps are way off on this chip. My Q6600 ran way cooler stock... so i don't think those are correct.

Here's an update...

I tried 3.0GHz at 1.25v and it booted fine.
3.4GHz at 1.25v worked as well.

Then things went south.
I went to 3.8Ghz at 1.25v (475 x 8) no boot

Upped voltage to 1.275 and upped northbridge, southbridge, and FSB term volts to max supported by my board. (1.7v, 1.2v, and 1.55v respectively).

No boot there

Tried 1.3v vcore - no boot
tried 1.325v vcore - no boot

I didn't want to go any further so i back down to 3.6GHz and it booted great at 1.3v. Tried 3.7GHz - no boot. So it looks like i'm board limited to 450MHz FSB.

Now i went for the lowest vcore that would support 3.6GHz. 1.185v is the lowest stable vcore i've found so far (right now Prime95 is at about 30 minutes - no errors). I think this is pretty impressive. It took 1.36v to get to 3.4 GHz with my Q6600. Sadly this is the furthest i can push because of my board. If you have a board that can do 500 MHz, 4.0GHz on the chip is not out of the question at all.

I'll attach some pics with temps (though they are likely too high)

That's awesome news! I plan on getting one, and I know my board can do 500fsb. Hope I get a good overclocker

No the temps arent reported correctly on mine either. Atleast 15*c off I think for mine. I havent found a good answer to this yet. I know stock this bugger is pleeeeeeeenty faster than the Q6600 I tried out. Just my .02 for now since im waiting on another mb and some software before I start my actual overclocking.

No worries, this happens to my QX9650 as well.
I had it on water and it tells me my CPU idles at 50C
I have a EVGA 780i board and the chipset fan is really annoying

Try going above that, to the 480 range.
Could be an FSB hole.

The 480 mark was easily passed over @ XS in more than one thread. This was an inital though (the 480 hole) but was pretty easily passed. I personally dont think my board is capable of it, but others have had good luck

Dont be afraid to use 1.4v. 1.45 is the max recomended for a 45nm, but 1.4v is safe for benching. Then just turn her down to 1.32 or so for daily use. And dont forget ASUS boards have notoriously bad Vdroop, so your 1.4 would be more like 1.375.

My E8400 at 1.35 would go to 4Ghz then stop, at 1.4 I got up to 4.275Ghz.

I take it that this goodness is only advisable on water cooling? Any idea what is going to be ok on air?

Its a 45nm quad, using much lower voltage then Q6600s, so air would be fine. I would suggest (to be safe) max 1.4v on air, 1.45-1.47 on water. Would guess an average of 3.6 on air, 4 on water.

I recomend the Gigayte EX38-DS4, the one in my sig. Has nearly no vdroop at all, every OC feature you want, and runs stable at 500x8 a 470x9. I didnt try higher then 500fsb, not because of the board, but because of my CPU. I will once its under water.
