Q6600(G0)+ASUS P5Q-E....Cant get FSB over 385 in any way.

Hey guys.

Just got at Q6600(G0), the asus p5q-e and 2*1GB corsair dominator DDR2 8500CL5.

Things are going pretty good and i have gotten the rig to do 3,46Ghz(9*385) at 1,43V perfectly prime stable with the temps never going above 60C. Having it do 3,46 24/7 is fine i guess but im annoyed at not being able to get over 385FSB no matter what i do. Even if i set the multi to 6,7 or 8 and set the mems to lowest possible divider it wont even boot into windows at 387 and up. So even if i set it to 387*6 with low mem Mhz its a no go. What is the reason behind this? This is my first intel processor ever(OC:ed a few AMD:s) so im pretty new to this. Ive looked around the boards but nothing really helped me. Could it be that my processor just cant handle a FSB above 385? (Have a 600w seasoninc so that shouldnt be a prob.)

Oh yeah. Raising the NB volt or the CPU volt seems to not help in any way.

Try setting your RAM to a 1:1 ration and that will remove it from the equation, you also may need a small bump in your north bridge voltage

We the FAK did my post go????

Anyway, here goes again.

1. Its not the processor.
2. Possible FSB hole? Try 400x8 or something like that.
3. NB voltage may need a bump up also..

Here is a great guide for u: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=261409

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it...though Im not sure what 1:1 ratio will do. The lower the memory the more it is out of equation...or so I thought.

Ive tried 400*8. Tried pretty much every combination. I havent had the NB volt over 1,3 because i dont know how much is safe.

Try 1.4. Thats safe. But in reality, you shouldnt need that much voltage for such a mediocre overclock...

Thnx for the help guys but i think ive figured out what the culprit was. Raising CPU PLL and FSB termination voltage allowed for much higher FSB:s...This is my first Intel so i just left them at auto. I read on another board that OC:ing q6600:s requires adjusted FSB termination v and CPU GTL values. Seems to be more stable now. Got random crashes even at 3,2 ghzz with them at auto.

Try installing the 703 BIOS if haven't it has mem compatibility fix if that is part of the problem I hit 3.6 no problem but have hit the wall
Q6600 go at 3.6gig Bios x9 400FSB 1.375V
4 gigs Dominator 1066 mem Bios 2.1V locked at 1066
Strap the FSB at 333
1.28 NBV
Stronger setting for Mem
8800 GTX at 593/1389/936
Audigy 2
P5Q-Pro
What voltages are you running for the CPUPLL and the FSB termination?

I just loaded the 1003 bios on mine and have had much more luck. Running prime95 for over an hour now at 9x400 @1.48 loaded with load line calibration OFF, 1.6 in bios. I'm on water though and pushed the voltage a bit further than some would to eliminate that as a problem. I'm gonna set it down to 1.5 with load line on next and try that. Gonna play with all the other setting that I have NO IDEA what they do now. Glad to see little tidbits of info on several different posts on here. I know i'm not much help, but when I get a stable 3.6 setup with the lowest volts possible I'll post my settings. Someone who knows something about these bios settings give us some input on this epic q6600+p5q-e setup please! lol
