Microsoft Unveils Microsoft Surface Tablet

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/06/...surface-tablet

Interesting. Dunno if it's my thing or not.

Quote:
The Microsoft Surface tablet comes in two options, Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro.

Windows RT is the lightweight option, both physically and spec-wise.
676g
9.33 mm thick
10.6" ClearType HD DIsplay
31.5 Wh battery
microSD, USB 2.0, Micro HD Video
Office Home & Student 2013 RT, Touch Cover, Type Cover
32 GB, 64 GB

Windows 8 Pro, is the obvious pro option, and is touted as a "full PC." It comes with a heftier weight (and, we can assume, a heftier pricetag too):
903 g
13.5 mm thick
10.6" ClearType Full HD Display
42 Wh battery
microSDXC, USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort Video,
Touch Cover, Type Cover, Pen with Palm Block
64 GB, 128 GB

Microsoft Surface comes with a sturdy, integrated kickstand and a SmartCover-esque cover that features a fully functioning keyboard with a trackpad. It connects with a "single magnetic click" that'll make it easy to swap out (or just take off, if you'd rather). "I can touch type on this as fast as I can type on any keyboard," said Microsoft's Michael Angiulo. Touch Cover comes in five colors - black, red, blue, and pink.
Will that work?

It all depends on the price for me: if it is low enough, I will likely snag one.

Please throw a quote in your text so I can throw it on the front page!

I'm pretty sure ill end up getting one of these. Full keyboard and full windows functionality in a tablet...awesome! My ipad will turn into a bedside clock.

Can't wait for a detailed spec list. I want to know what kind of firepower is under the hood.

You and I both - do you think it'll have a discrete card or will this be something Tegra powered?

Edit: Though if they're setting their sights at Civ IV-V, it won't be much I'm guessing.

I am all for a device that can be used as a tablet and netbook, I had my eye on the Asus Transformer (but Android makes it more of a toy than a productive tool), and the Acer Iconia with Windows 7 (but a bit too expensive for my likes plus the design with the keyboard dock did not appeal to me) - now this Microsoft device - looks interesting, I will definitely keep an eye out for it.

I dunno, Civ games are CPU intensive, so that is a plus.

Looks interesting. If it has some decent functionality in its' Windows OS then it could be a big contender, about time Apple had some serious competition.

Tablets are all too big, I don't understand how people carry them around unless they have a briefcase or a backpack.

I just want something to replace my Viliv S5... I'm hoping someone makes a device similar to that or the Viliv N5 (or UMID M1/M2/BZ) that can run windows 8.

Because with Apple, it's not about what it has, it's about what it doesn't have.

The iPad is thinner than a USB port. Outside of that, the iPad isn't a computer, it's more of a toy than a productive device, where as this is a computer.

So many haters... lol

This is why you pay for a BMW...

haha, with BMW you get what you pay for. It's brands like Ferrari where you pay for the badge.

And if you're gonna compare Vauxhall with BMW, that's not quite fair now is it

who said i was talkng about their cars, their bikes have a habit of the big end end bolts undoing themselves. the only reason you buy it for the amount they ask is for the badge, go buy a jap bike, heck even an italian bike you will always end up with something better.

the hate is based on cold hard facts. i know i know someone who had a bmw bike that spent most of its time undre warranty as the bearings/bushes in the front duo-link suspension... the list of royal balls up just get longer and longer

If it runs windows 7, sounds like it will function on the level of a netbook, with less baggage. I'm keeping my eye on this and the Transformer. If windows 8 is compatible with the newer transformers i might go for them.

side note: would it be sacrilege to hackintosh this tablet?
