Google Unveils Nexus7 a 7" Tablet running Jelly Bean Android 4.1 $199

This should really cut into Apple's iPad market at this price point.
The lack of an option for a 3G/4G version stinks but it should make for a nice tablet. I'd like to see how an NFC tablet would work out for payments. That's a bit odd IMHO.

Google unveiled its own Nexus tablet, the Nexus 7, at the Google I/O conference Wednesday in San Francisco. The 7-inch tablet running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will have a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor as well as a 1280x800 IPS display with a 178-degree viewing angle.

The tablet, which Google says is "built specifically for Google Play," will have a 1.2-megapixel camera, 1GB of RAM, and a 4,235mAh battery that will get it 8 hours of battery life "during active use" or 9 hours of video playback. The tablet weighs 340 grams, just shy of 12 ounces, and is 10.45mm thick (2.6 ounces lighter and just under a millimeter thinner than the Kindle Fire). Both 8GB and 16GB configurations will be available. Bluetooth, WiFi, and NFC all come standard, and there is no version of the tablet that can connect to a cell network.

With that kind of specs and price point, it's actually tempting.

HUM.

EDIT:

Jelly beans? I thought 4.x were ICS?

Cupcake 1.5
Donnut 1.6
Eclair 2.0/2.1
Froyo 2.2.X
Gingerbread 2.3.x
Honeycomb (tablets only) 3.x
ICS 4.0.X
Jellybean 4.1

There doesn't seem to be alot of rhyme or reason with their versioning vs. new names.

They're probably just dishing out new names to rope in all the idiots.

https://play.google.com/store/device...id=nexus_7_8gb Looks like you can buy it now and it'll ship in 2-3 weeks.

Early reviews are that the hardware is good but it "feels" cheap.

Don't know. Don't care. My contract expires in a month and I might not be getting it. I like the 2.2 interface better.

That's pretty sweet for a tablet. Reasonable resolution for a 7" display. Would make an excellent eReader/tablet combo, although I think the Nook SimpleTouch w/glowlight is the best eReader concept out right now.
