Apple Patent Wins: Samsung Tablet Blocked from US and Apple Awarded 27 New Patents

Apple is on a patent tear winning an injunction that bans sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the United States. Adding to its patent victories the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Apple 27 new patents, including a patent for scrolling, rotating, and scaling documents on touch screen devices. The patent win against Samsung is considered one of Apple's biggest wins yet. Late Tuesday a federal court in California granted Apple a preliminary injunction finding the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be substantially similar "in the eyes of the ordinary observer" to an Apple patent (D504,889) and "virtually indistinguishable" from Apple's iPad and iPad 2.

Maybe I shouldn't have sold my Galaxy 10.1... Could be a rare collectors item now.

Apple is just plain affraid of competition, figure they have to do all they can to kick everyone else to the curb to win... kinda reminds you of the bully in the school yard, doesnt it.

I dont have a problem with it. If Apples ideas have legitimately been taken, then they should fight, on the other hand, they should also not steal other companies ideas and win in court because they have more money to prolong a battle.

Very shrewd business people. VERY. Can't fault them for that. Just don't buy the stuff if you feel they are not on the up and up. I have fallen in love with siri, so i am out of the "I hate apple" club, they have sold me the love of my life.

they're a business. if they aren't trying to make money then what the hell are they doing?

I know as a consumer it really sucks that there isn't competition to promote growth in technology, but you can't really fault apple for being d*cks to maintain their market share. wouldn't you do the same?

Has anyone read that patent document. I'm no lawyer but the short of it seems to be that they patented the idea of using an interface to search and show you results.

I love apple and their products and this makes me get a cat...put it on my lap and then pet it whilst wearing a black suit and sunglasses indoors in the dark with a spotlight on me.

As much as I hate Apple, this is a problem solely with the US Patent Office for handing out ludicrous patents.

Its completely ludicrous to be frank and is in need of major sweeping changes on how patents can be given and they should all be vetted properly for conflicts.
