Mega-victory: Kim Dotcom search warrants "invalid," mansion raid "illegal"

January 20, New Zealand police showed up in style at the mansion of flamboyant Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom, swarming over the property and bringing along two police helicopters. They cut their way through locks and into the home's "panic room," where Dotcom was hiding in apparent fear of a kidnapping or robbery. They seized 18 luxury vehicles. They secured NZ$11 million in cash from bank accounts. And they grabbed a whopping 150TB of data from Dotcom's many digital devices.

There is no case. This just makes our government look even worse than they did before. The good news is that this case is starting to feel like a reason to get corporations out of government: a few more embarrassments like this and maybe the public will get fed up enough to remove the problem.

No matter the feelings one way or another on the issue, its clear the law enforcement people didnt do the raid by the book. They have taken great pains to not let anyone get near the data, even those that OWN some of the data that was siezed. Not to mention the whole issue of the CCTV footage of the raid that they are unwilling to release.

When corporations start attempting to dictate law, crap hits the fan in a big way.

well i think "miranda rights" is a US thing (which aren't verbally given anymore.) this arrest was in New Zealand.

What irritates me is that the US Imaged all of his drives, and probably will not give it back/destroy their copies. What our government is doing is just as bad as the alleged crimes committed.
