DVD Shrink 3.2 uses only one core

I just recently got a new cpu and I'd thought I'd test out the performance increase by ripping and rendering a dvd movie. I've read from so many people that dvd shrink 3.2 will use dual cores to do its rendering and cut down time by a lot. However when I try it, it only uses about 15% of one core only. I turned off the low priority option in dvd shrink and still no imporovement, only uses one core 15%. When you have dual core is there something you need to do in windows so that it utilizes both cores when it can? Or is that suppose to be automatic?

Dvdshrink is a freeware, i am 99% sur it don't use 2 cores.

If it do something it will use a core for windows and a core for dvdshrink (it will help a little)

That's weird, on my 3000+ it would take over an hour to encode a movie. Then i overhauled the family PC with an X2 3800+ and it takes about 30 minutes with both cores at 100%

I think it might depend on what movie and how much you are shrinking it. I've noticed that my e6400's (oc'd to 3.2Ghz) cpu usage will fluctuate between 60-90% most times, but on small movies that don't need much (or any) compression/shrinking it rarely gets above 50%.

I do see nearly 100% load quite often when running a deep analysis prior to shrinking though.

Actually I figured it out. I was doing straight rendoring from the dvd itself, rather then rip the dvd to the harddrive first and then re-encoding it. Talk about a duh moment. The CPU was limited to the speed at which the dvd could be read haha. But now I rip it first and then re-encode it and it uses multiple cores. However it only uses about 75% not 100% but still better the 15% =P

DVD shrink works great with c2d. My shrink time went from 50 minutes with a 640 @3.8 to 25 minutes with a c2d 6600 @2.7.

Well for times when you want a DVD that you don't care about the quality DVD Shrink does do a fine job.

But if you guys really want to make GREAT DVDs you should look at getting DVD-Rebuilder.

I'll be honest I love as much FREEware as I can get but DVD-Rebuilder ROCKS!

It's not quick but it makes amazing DVDs.
